Predator - Jack Olsen

Category: Books

Genre: Non-Fiction, Based on a True Story

BAuthor: Jack Olsen

Overview and Review of Predator a book written by Jack Olsen.

This is a true story about a man named "Steve Titus" (a pseudonym to protect the identity) who was falsely accused of raping a woman named Celia Dalton. For eight (8) long months he suffered under a trial he did not commit. Along with it his career and sense of well-being ended.

The work was done by a serial rapist / psychopath who raped about 50-55 all in all named Mac Smith (a pseudonym as well).

There sure are some loopholes in every government system and this book shows how it could be made possible. I'm sure there are many others who were convicted of a crime they did not commit and that is just so sad.

The end was more like a report of events of what happened after uncovering the real story with the help of a journalist. It was reported and well accounted in the book. The family that Mac Smith grew up with.

The Angel is Near - Deepak Chopra and Martin Greenberg

Category: Book

Genre: Spiritual / Fiction

Author: Deepak Chopra and Martin H. GreenBerg

Overview and Review of The Angel Is Near by Deepak Chopra.

If you are born with wings, do nothing to stop them from growing.

The story started with two soldiers in a small village in Kosovo who heard about a strange sound coming from an old abandoned church and once inside they were struck down by a flash of blinding light. A story about an American Doctor named Michael Aulden who found himself in an event so different from what he calls REAL. He is living two situations at the same time. He was able to separate himself from his body and he was given the chance to re-create his current reality.

The first "Deepak Chopra" book I have read.

Though it is fiction it is also very enlightening. It brought me once again to light. It reminded me once again to just be in the light when one is in the dark. This basically talks about guides and angels.. very nice. I like the "Angel's Voice" part here.

Paradise Lost - J.A. Jance

Category: Book

Genre: Mystery

Author: J.A. Jance

Overview and Review of Paradise Lost a Joanna Brady series by J.A. Jance

Two Girl Scouts who were out camping named Dora Matthews (13yrold) and Jenny Brady (12yrold) found a body of a missing woman lies, naked, lifeless and abandoned in the desolate beauty of Apache Pass one night. Jenny Brady happens to be the daughter of Sheriff Joanna Brady.

I guess this is not one of her best, but nevertheless it's entertaining (I always say this kind of statement to an A-OK book). Although, the plot was unique and all but there's just so much talk in this book. But, it gives you a lot of details about the Arizona countryside which you would really appreciate. If you are into a fast-read mystery this book is for you. :)

The Anastasia Syndrome and other stories - Mary Higgins Clark

Category: Books

Genre: Thriller

Author: Mary Higgins Clark

Overview and Review of the Anastasia Syndrome and Other Stories (Lucky Day, Double Vision and The Lost Angel) by Mary Higgins Clark.

I was always curious as to how Mary Higgins Clark writes. Finally, I got the chance to read one of her book that has lots of different stories written by her.

The Anastasia Syndrome - 3 and a half

The title refers to a drug used to regress a certain person back to history. A story that transported me to old English history with King Charles I and King Charles II because it involves a woman named Judith Chase who is a historical writer. Judith Chase was an orphan during World War II. Part of writing English History was the plan of tracing back her origins/roots. In one social gathering, she met a Doctor who was deemed a charlatan by the many because of his discovery of the "Anastasia Syndrome".

Very nicely written, and what a twist. She builds your tension right from the beginning to the end. No happy-endings with her though.

Lucky Day - 4

A man named Bill was telling everybody he met that he was feeling lucky. During that lucky day he was found dead during a cold wet night at a park. Nora one of the person Bill loves to gab with felt sorry for the old man and was determined to find out about his death.

Even though the story is short, it is still filled with suspense. It also managed to be mysterious up until the end. An ending I wasn't expecting. Nice twist but sad.

Double Vision - 2 and a half

This is about a frustrated psychotic actor named Jimmy who is out to get Caroline who he believes to have spoiled his acting career and at the same time calling her his "jinx".

Not one of her best but equally entertaining.

The Lost Angel - 2 and a half

This story tells of a lost girl named Jamie and was found posing for a magazine as an angel.

Sweet story and it did not lack the thrill. Sweet ending.

Enchanted Love - Marianne Williamson

Category: Book

Genre: Self-Help

Author: Marianne Williamson

Overview and Review of Enchanted Love a Guide to Intimate Relationships by Marianne Williamson.

It's a nice book, although I can't quite grasp some aspects in the book. Maybe, it's just too deep or something. It helped me clear out some baggages or questions I have about love this time. She would take you to another realm.

She's a great writer. She uses enchanting words and quite fit for the title. She uses a lot of picture language I have a hard time picturing out.

I recommend this book to people who are having trouble with their partners, are stuck from a past love, wants to fall in love, divorced people, people who are in and out of relationships sometimes. It's not a how-to book but somehow it sheds a lot of light to what you are going through. It can lighten up your load.

Happy, Enchanting Love!

SVU Thriller Edition - Killer at Sea

Category: Book

Genre: Thriller

Creator: Francine Pascal

Overview and Review of Sweet Valley University's Thriller Edition entitled Killer at Sea created by Francine Pascal.

Jessica Wakefield and Nick Fox went sailing spontaneously. Nick Fox wanted to be away from his work as a detective because his recent case went haywire and he wasn't feeling up to par. His boss gave him a break to unwind.

Elizabeth Wakefield was deeply troubled of leaving Jessica to Nick that time because Nick was in a bad mood. The gut feeling of a twin sister is taking it's toll. Little did they know Jessica and Nick would pick up to help the guy at sea.

Entertaining. With an air of a "this-should-be-a-tv-series". Not one of SVU's best but equally entertaining.

Nick: You don't need make-up! Who's crazy enough to bring mascara on a sailing trip?
Jessica: Give me a little credit, Nick. It's waterproof.

The Last Family - John Ramsey Miller

Category: Books

Genre: Thriller

Author: John Ramsey Miller

Overview and Review of The Last Family by John Ramsey Miller.

Martin Fletcher may be your worst nightmare. You may wish you never knew him. He is insanely clever and he is back for revenge. He wants to eat your heart out by going after your family.

Paul Masterson hibernated to a mountain in Montana six years ago when an ambush left him half-blind and mutilated (almost). HIs self-esteem went back to zero, he left his family and punished himself by being alone and tormented.

In 3-4 years the families of his 3(three) friends (Rainey, Joe and Thorne) died on separate accounts either by accident so no one would suspect. And Paul's family is the last target. Rainey's family was the last to be annihilated (sounds so holocaust-y right?) and Martin left his mark on Rainey's wife.

Well-written. High family drama and an intense thriller rolled into one. You would almost suspect everyone in the book like what I did with Reid and Woody. A sudden turnabout would surprise you in the near end, one you wouldn't really expect and did not see coming. Although, I was quite disappointed with the ending because it did not say much about Paul and Laura's relationship. Left it hanging.

Swiss Deli - Davao

Category: Restaurant / Food

A review and overview of Swiss Deli.

Swiss Deli is a restaurant located in front of Damosa and beside Chevrolet.

It's been there for a couple of years but we haven't even dropped by and tried what they have to offer. Just recently they expanded. Expansion means good business and since it's a restaurant it must've something in their dish that is good.

Before 2007 ended we got to dine with my family at Swiss Deli.

Just from the looks of the place it gives us the air that screams EXPENSIVE. Yes, it sure is. But it is not expensive for nothing.

Before you enter the dining area, you will be greeted with a variety of Swiss goods from chocolates to wines and hams. So, it's basically not just a restaurant but a specialty store rolled into one.

If you are looking for a place here in Davao that serves Turkey, this place is just the restaurant that would do you a favor. It serves Turkey. Yum. I finally got the chance to eat one. They have a variety of sausages for you to choose from their menu.

When you go here do not look at the price. Just order. Hehe.

I like the way they served the Tiramisu. Totally different from the one in La Toscana (but I guess I prefer the La Toscana style).

Pictures would follow. It's on my mom's phone. :)

Roses are Red

Category: Product / Website

Product Review:

http://www.1800flowers.com/flower-type/roses

The New Year is here and Valentine's is slowly creeping it's way in. Filling the streets with love and painting the town red. Wouldn't it be lovely to receive roses along the way, specially if it is from someone special?

A Rose is the next best thing after tulip for me. In just a few days I am sure that roses would be in demand because of the coming Valentine's Day.

Imagine with me a bouquet of roses. Would you rather have it all red, white or yellow? I think I would have mine pink. Yay! Or would you rather have it mixed with all different colors.

Presentation is almost as important as to the roses itself. How it was delivered, arranged and where it is placed is very vital.

Like this Rose Trellis that is arranged with red roses and pink carnations. The said enchanting spin on the traditional dozen roses with carnation arrangement will send your Valentine reach for the stars.

If you are a person who is just so uber romantic and wants to show your lover that your love is just so abundant you can present her with the "Abundant Love Bundle" set. It has a dozen exquisite red roses set in a very cute red glass vase, plus a heart shaped box of delicious Harry London chocolate ruffles and a plush bear with a red satin ribbon and a keepsake tote bag.

I personally like the "Sweetheart Bouquet" by Julie Mulligan which is a charmer! I would love to have that bouquet. It is just so lovely, sweet and colorful (hot pink, orange and yellow roses). It is also complimented by a special acrylic -colorful hearts that is meant to fill the outer rim of the vase.

Choose your bouquet for a very special someone this Valentine's!

Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo - 2007

Category: Movie

Genre: Comedy

Director: Jose Javier Reyes

Cast:

Judy Ann Santos -------- Angie

Ryan Agoncillo -------- Jed

Tuesday Vargas

Overview and Review of Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo directed by Jose Javier Reyes.

Real life couple Judy Ann Santos (Angie) and Ryan Agoncillo (Jed) stars this movie. This is a story about the trials of a "married life" and parenthood in a Pinoy kind of way. They have a new-born baby named Raphael (Rapha) - and they are torn between who would watch out for the baby. Juggling the baby and their jobs. Plus, the trouble of Jed dealing with his mother (Gloria Diaz) and Angie dealing with her mother dating a 3-times widower balikbayan person (Freddie Webb). Also the trouble between Jed's mother and Angie's mother.

I had fun with the movie. I like the punchlines. Partly why I decided to go and watch it because of the punchlines you get to hear on the trailers. I also like the movie because of Tuesday Vargas. Any movie with her would make it even more funnier. Judy Ann Santos is soooo beautiful in this movie - I am not much of a Juday fan but she looks great in this movie. Also to Ryan Agoncillo - he looks great with his hairdo. Their tandem is just soo good that even if the movie is supposed to be pure fun and comedy - you'd prolly be "kilig" a few times because of their chemistry.

I was wishing I've seen the prequel which was "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo". The title of the movie is more like "Shake, Rattle and Roll" since each word have their own corresponding story.

The transitions were too fast and seems like it's in a rush for the punchline but at least the story in this movie was grounded to Pinoy reality - that's why almost everyone can relate to it.

Punchlines:

Angie: Wag mo kong sigawan! "Don't shout at me!"
Jed: Hindi ako sumisigaw, nilalakasan ko lang for emphasis! "I'm not shouting. I'm just saying it out aloud for emphasis."

Angie: Mag boyfriend ba kayo ?
Angie's mom: Hindi...
Angie: So, friends lang kayo?
Angie's mom: Let's just say we're more than friends.
Angie: Ang showbiz naman ng sagot mo.

and a whole lot more I can;t remember. I'd prolly buy the two Vcd's once I see them at the store. hehe.

Chicken Soup for the Network Marketer's Soul

Category: Books

Genre: Non-Fiction

Creators: Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Bill Hyman

A review and overview of Chicken Soup for the Network Marketer's Soul created by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Bill Hyman.

Wow! This is actually the second " Chicken Soup" book we have here in our home and the first Chicken Soup that I decided to read all the way. Why? Because I can practically relate to the book. I am a Network Marketer myself.

To a "Network Marketer" this would seem like a "motivational book" to different people in all walks of life involved in a "Network Marketing" company. Doesn't matter which company.

To someone who is in doubt of Network Marketing, you would find this book a useful book. It gives another light, which is to say the "true light" of Network Marketing.

Network Marketing may seem "lucrative" to most and even a "scam", but basically you just have to look for the "right company" that would suit you. I cannot say that all Network Marketing companies are good because some are hiding behind the guise of MLM and using Network Marketing but they are out there just to get your money/investments. Be AWARE of them.

The true PRINCIPLE of NETWORK MARKETING is "Helping other people get what they want before you get what you want". This is a People-Helping-People business and since you helped a lot of people to succeed - you can't help but succeed from it too. Only insiders would know the difference. No matter how hard we try to say this is a good business and comes with CLEAN MONEY, not everyone would believe it, which is just OK. This business is NOT FOR EVERYBODY anyway.

This book practically shows the difference that a NETWORK MARKETING company can make. It inspired me to do more. I saw how a lot of people out there in this business are helping A LOT of other people.

In all of the stories in this book I have three favorites:

Five Magic Words
A Smile Despite the Pain
That Little Voice Inside

I suggest people who are in the business of Network Marketing or even people who are mildly interested in the business and want to see the good of it, or those people who thinks this business is all about MONEY try to read this.
