Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - 2010

Category: Movie

Genre: Fantasy / Adventure / Action

Director: Mike Newell Writer: Boaz Yakin / Doug Miro

Producer: Walt Disney Pictures, Jerry Bruckheimer Films
Tagline: Defy the Future

Cast: Jake Gyllenhall, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina, Steve Toussaint, Toby Kebbell, Richard Coyle, Ronald Pickup, Reece Ritchie, Gisli Orn Garoarsson, Claudio Pacifico, Thomas DuPont, Dave Pope and more.

Overview and Review of The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time directed by Mike Newell.

Based on a video game. This movie was set in the mystical lands of Persia. A young fugitive prince, Dastan and a beautiful mysterious princess, Tamina must stop the dark forces who might unknowingly destroy the world for selfish gains using a special dagger that enables the magic sand inside to reverse the time.

I've always wanted to watch this because it's a Jerry Bruckheimer Film and at the same time a Walt Disney Pictures. I am a big fan of both. And once again, they never failed me. It wasn't predictable there was a surprising twist in the near end which I really enjoyed. I like the chemistry of Dastan and Tamina. The action scenes were all great, everything about the movie is very vivid and engaging. I heard that some actors had to learn "parkour" for a scene that I enjoyed really well. I also had loads of fun with the ostrich racing.

Quotes I Love:

Tamina: That's impossible.
Dastan: Difficult, not impossible.
Tamina: All the more proving you're insane.
Dastan: Then why do you look so impressed?

Tamina: All the pain in the world will not help you find something that does not exist.

King Sharaman: Family, the bond between brothers is the sword that defends our empire; I pray that that sword stays strong

Tamina: So I'm being escorted by Prince Dastan, the Lion of Persia. Must feel wonderful winning such a claim for destroying such an innocent city.
Dastan: Oh, a pleasure to meet you too, princess. And allow me to offer, that if punishing the enemies of my king is a crime, then it's one I'll gladly repeat.
Tamina: Then you are a true prince of Persia. Brutal. Without honor.
Dastan: Don't make the mistake of thinking you know me, princess.

King Sharaman: A great man who would have stopped what was wrong, no matter who was ordering.

King Sharaman: The princess of Alamut will be your first wife! What say you, Dastan?
Dastan: Uh...
King Sharaman: He plunges into a hundred foes without falter, but before marriage he stands frozen with fear!
Dastan: I need a drink.

Tamina: Protect the dagger no matter what the consequences. That was my sacred duty. That was my destiny.
Dastan: We make our own destiny, Princess.

Tamina: You know you walk like one, head held high, chest out, long stomping strides, it's probably from being told since birth that the world was yours.
Dastan: I wasn't born in a palace like you! I was born in the slums where I fought and scratched and clawed for everything that I got!
Tamina: Then how did you become a prince?
Dastan: I don't know, the King. He found me, he gave me, a home, a family. You're looking at the look of a man who has lost everything.

Love Actually - 2003

Category: Movie

Genre: Comedy / Drama / Romance

Director: Richard Curtis

Writer: Richard Curtis

Tagline: Love actually is all around.

Cast: Bill Nighy, Gregor Fisher, Rory Macgregor, Colin Firth, Sienna Guillory, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Lulu Poppelwell, Kris Marshall, Heike Makatsch, Martin Freeman, Joanna Page, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Andrew Lincoln, Keira Knightley

Overview and Review of the movie Love Actually directed and written by Richard Curtis.

"I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes... Love is all around me..."

Indeed this film sure makes you feel that love is all around you.

During the 5 last frantic weeks of Christmas mostly in London, comes various couples with different stories. It's about LOVE and relationships. The characters are in the act of falling in love, falling out of love, others are looking to have an affair, others in mourning, others are just about to confess their feelings and others are flirting. Love in different age groups as well. from the young to the old.

It's a good holiday romantic film. But, not entirely perfect. Of course, you can't really get full length story of the couples here because they are all just snapshots. What caught my attention in the beginning was the voice over of David in Heathrow Airport which you will see below. Because, I really wrote the message down. Also, the song.. "Love is all around me" which was changed into "Christmas is all around me" will play in your head over and over. One good thing about this movie is that it shows the common things in relationships..both the happy moments specially about finding it and the sad moments when the mundane things kicks in or when someone leaves the physical world.

Quotes I Love:

Prime Minister: Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaking suspicion... love actually is all around.

Daniel: Tell her that you love her.
Same: No way! Anyway, they fly tonight.
Daniel: Even better! Sam, you've got nothin' to lose, and you'll always regret it if you don't! I never told your mom enough. I should have told her everyday because she was perfect everyday. You've seen the films, kiddo. It ain't over 'til its over.

one of the best scenes... bitter sweet..

[on sheets of poster board]
Mark: With any luck, by next year - I'll be going out with one of these girls.
[shows pictures of beautiful supermodels]
Mark: But for now, let me say - Without hope or agenda - Just because it's Christmas - And at Christmas you tell the truth - To me, you are perfect - And my wasted heart will love you - Until you look like this.
[picture of a mummy]
Mark: Merry Christmas.

Jamie: [in English] It's my favorite time of day, driving you.
Aurelia: [in Portuguese] It's the saddest part of my day, leaving you.

Just Like Heaven - 2005

Category: Movies

Genre: Comedy / Fantasy / Romance

Director: Mark Waters

Writer: Peter Tolan / Leslie Dixon

Tagline: Love will bring you back / It's a wonderful afterlife
Cast: Reese Witherspoon, Mark Ruffalo, Donal Logue, Dina Waters, Ben Shenkman, Jon Heder, Ivana Millicevic, Caroline Aaron, Rosalind Chao, Ron Canada, Willie Garson, Gabrielle Made and more.

Overview and Review of the movie Just Like Heaven directed by Mark Waters.

Elizabeth Masterson is a dedicated doctor at a hospital who had no time for anything. Everybody keeps bugging her about getting a boyfriend and then one day his sister sets her up on a blind date. On the way, she gets into an accident and goes into a three month coma. While she is in the coma her apartment becomes available for sublet. A depressed landscape architect, David Abbott, who is recovering over the loss of his wife and basically drinks himself to sleep moves into Elizabeth's apartment. At first David believes she is a hallucination brought about by his drinking but as time goes on they realize the truth. Only David can see and hear Elizabeth.

I had fun watching this movie. I think among the chick flicks it is one of the "must-see". It has a unique story, great cast with good acting. I even like the "esoteric" feel of the movie. About the afterlife and all that. One could sure enjoy this movie from the beginning to the end. This film is a good laugh, who can be also sweet at the same time.

Funny Quotes

Jack: God made alcohol as a social lubricant. To make men brave, and to make women loose.

David: You know what you shouldn't come with me anymore.
Elizabeth: Why?
David: You are like an AM radio shoved into my head that i can't turn off.

Elizabeth: Oh my, this is more serious than I thought
David: Go away, you don't exist!
Elizabeth: I'm going to ask you a series of questions and I want you to answer honestly. Has your recent alcohol intake increased?
David: Yeah. So?
Elizabeth: So are you hearing voices or seeing things that aren't quite real?
David: As a matter of fact, yeah
Elizabeth: Well then, have you recently sought consult from a mental health care professional?
David: What? How did you know that? Stay away from me!
Elizabeth: Do you often feel paranoid, like people are out to get you?
David: Why are you asking so many questions?
Elizabeth: I'll take that as a yes. Listen to me. You have fantasised, quite convincingly that you have rented an apartment that in fact belongs to somebody else.
Elizabeth: I think you may need to come to terms with the fact that you may be mentally ill.

Elizabeth: My brain activity's decreasing every day.
David: Maybe that's not such a bad thing. You're kind of a smarty pants. It might bring you down to my level.

Overview and Review of the movie An Affair To Remember directed by Leo McCarey.

Playboy Nicky Ferrante is on board a cruise from Europe to New York, and then he meets and had this affair with the gorgeous night-club singer Terry McKay. Nicky was traveling to meet his wealthy fiancée while Terry is returning to the arms of her supportive boy-friend. They scheduled a meeting on the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building six months later to decide whether they should marry each other or not.

I watched this on transit while i was waiting for a flight to Pekanbaru from Medan in Indonesia. this movie also moved me.. eventhough its quite old fashioned... It has a zing to it's own. And you just gotta hand it to the classics. It can also pull your heartstrings in its own classical way... :)

Roman Holiday - 1953

Category: Movie

Genre: Classic / Romance

Director: William Wyler

Writer: Dalton Trumbo / Ian Mclellan Hunter

Tagline: Audrey Hepburn at her Oscar-winning best in an immortal comedy-romance!

Cast: Audrey Hepburn, Gregory Peck, Eddie Albert, Hartley Power, Harcourt Williams, Margaret Rawlings, Tullio Carminati, Paolo Carlini and Claudio Ermelli

Overview and Review of the Movie A Roman Holiday Directed by William Wyler.

Princess Anne is on a publicized tour of European capitals. And while she was in Rome, she got bored with all the niceties and rebelled one night against her restricted schedule. She sneaks out of her room but she was on a sedative that time because the Royal Physician gave her that to calm her nerves and falls asleep at a public bench. Later, Joe Bradley a newspaper reporter found her. And grudgingly takes her to his apartment seeing she was unable to walk and was blabbing incoherently.

Everyone says it's a gem on it's own. Specially, since it stars Audrey Hepburn. Who can wow the audience with her acting and beauty and her distinctive voice. I kind of expected more of the ending.. but it came off as bitin. But, i guess that's what they day back in the days...

This sure is a Roman Holiday... because what happened in Rome stays in Rome. :)

Indigo - 2005

Category: Movie

Genre: Spirituality

Directed by: Stephen Simon

Writer: Neale Donald Walsch and James Twyman

Cast: Neale Donald Walsch

This is a fictional story of the redemption of a grandfather(Neale Donald Walsch), through his granddaughter, who is an indigo child.

Indigo Children is a label given to children whose parents believe they possess special, unusual and/or supernatural traits or abilities. They are usually empathic, curious, and strong willed.

I like this simple story of the indigo kid. Eventhough it is a low budget flick it sure can uplift your spirit in positive ways. It is a wonderful story. :)

Quotes from the Movie:

What makes you think imagination isn't real? Something needs to be imagined before it can be created right?

Child: I'm not making anything up. You are just dementially challenged. you don't believe in anything unless you see it with your own eyes. There's lots of things I can't see with my eyes but I know they're real.

Child: Fastidious. Means diligent and pays attention to things.

Underworld: Evolution - 2006

Category: Movie

Genre: Action / Thriller

Director: Len Wiseman

Writer: Danny McBride / Len Wiseman

Tagline:

Cast: Kate Beckinsale, Scott Speedman, Tony Curran, Derek Jacobi, Bill Nighy, Steven Mackintosh, Shane Brolly, Brian Steele, Zita Gorog, Scott McElroy, John Mann and more.

Overview and Review of the Underworld: Evolution directed by Len Wiseman.

This movie is a continuation of the war between the vampires and the Lycans. It began where the first movie Underworld, ended. But, this film also goes back to the beginnings of the ancient feud between the two tribes as Selene, the vampire heroine and a former member of Death Dealers, and Michael, the lycan hybrid, tries to unlock the secrets of their bloodlines. A modern tale of action, intrigue and forbidden love with a dash of darkness and legend.

I also enjoyed this film. I watched right after I watched the first film. Great actors with great performances and a good storyline to boot. Although there were predictable scenes... it was quite riveting on most parts.

Underworld - 2003

Category: Movie

Genre: Action / Fantasy

Director: Len Wiseman

Writer: Kevin Grevioux, Len Wiseman, Danny Mcbride

Tagline: An immortal battle for supremacy.

Cast: Kate Beckinsale, Scott Speedman, Michael Sheen, Shane Brolly, Bill Nighy, Erwin Leder, Sophia Myles, Robbie Gee, Wentworth Miller, Kevin Grevioux, Zita Gorog, Dennis J. Kozeluh, Scott McElroy and more.

Overview and Review of the Movie Underworld directed by Len Wiseman

There's a war raging between the Vampires and the Lycan for centuries. Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is a death dealer, assigned to hunt down and eradicate the last of the Lycan. But, then she comes across Michael Corvin(Scott Speedman) a hybrid, she must decide where her allegiances will lie.

I thought before it would be one movie I can skip. But, then my cousins placed the 2 series on my Itouch and I watched it. I was surprised, I got engaged by the movie and it's story. It's a good film. I always enjoyed any story that involves myth and legend.. even if it's as dark as vampires and lycans.

Of course, it's not a masterpiece and it has a few flaws all in its own.... just enjoy the movie.. and chill. :)
