Eat, Pray, Love - 2010

Category: Movie

Genre: Drama

Director:
Ryan Murphy

Writer:
Ryan Murphy, Jennifer Salt, Elizabeth Gilbert (book)

Producer:
Columbia Pictures, Plan B Entertainment, India Take One Productions

Tagline:
Let yourself Go this August

Cast:
Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem, Richard Jenkins, Hadi Subiyanto,Viola Davis, Bily Crudup, A. Jay Radcliff, James Franco, Tuva Novotny, Rushita Singh, Christine Hakim and more.

You would think that Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) had everything a modern woman dreamed to have. She is married, they built their own home and she has a successful career as a writer. Yet, she is still confused and lost wanting a divorce. And when she did she tries taking a year off to journey to Italy to India and then end the year at Bali.

I guess the reviews about the movie kind of made me expect more about the movie. The first time I watched it... I didn't enjoy it much. But, the second time.. I began liking the movie.

I did enjoy the "Eat" part of the movie, where she goes to Italy to learn about the language and how to speak Italian with your hands. I enjoyed that part. Also the dolce-far-niente. The sweetness of doing nothing. Ahhh.

And when I watched it the second time around I enjoyed her encounters with Ketut in Bali... and the uh love story in Bali itself. :)

Quote I Love:

In the end, I've come to believe in something I call "The Physics of the Quest." A force in nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity. The rule of Quest Physics goes something like this: If you're brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments, and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared, most of all, to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you.

The Rich Shall Inherit - Elizabeth Adler

Category: Books

Genre: Drama

Author: Elizabeth Adler

Tagline: A tangled web of lies. A legacy of scandal. A search for a missing heir.

A massive inheritance has been left behind by Poppy Mallory who has remained a mysterious millionaire. And after her death a law firm begins to announce that they are looking for the descendant of Poppy. The daughter or a son. Mike Preston, a popular author was intrigued and decides to help out on the case.

I first encountered Elizabeth Adler with her book, "Fortune is A Woman". I really enjoyed the book, that I began scouring the bookstores for more of her work. Most of her stories usually involves rich empires or the old-rich in most cases.

It's kind of intriguing but not as good as her "Fortune is A Woman". Hehe. I have to say. But, if you are into mystery and drama... this would be a great book for you.

ONE OF THE BEST MOVIE EVERRRR!!!

AAL IZZ WELL.

I recommend this to everyone. It covers everything from school, career, friends, love, life, family and more. What a genius the screen writer of the movie. And awesome acting! Due to their awesome acting I researched the male lead and found out his name his Aamir Khan. This movie has the ability to deliver a message without being too boring. You wouldn't know whether to cry or to laugh because it has the power to do that. Great cinematography.... wonderful music.. catchy songs.

It's great for all ages. Love love everything about the movie. Three thumbs up! It's long but you wouldn't notice it because you are enjoying every minute of it.

I watched it last December 2010 and I have been spreading the movie ever since. I got this movie from my cousin, Ariane. And now it's spreading like wildfire. almost everyone I know watched the movie already. The power of the word of mouth!! :)

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader - 2010

Category: Movie

Genre: Adventure / Fantasy

Director: Michael Apted

Writer: Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, C.S. Lewis.

Producer: Dune Entertainment, Fox 2000 Pictures, 20th Century Fox Film Corporation

Tagline: Take the voyage. Live the adventure. Discover Narnia like you've never seen it before.

Cast: Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes, Georgie Henley, Anna Popplewell, William, Moseley, Will Poulter, Gary Sweet, Terry Norris, Bruce Spence, Tilda Swinton, Arthur Angel, Liam Neeson (voice of Aslan) and more.

Lucy and Edmund Pevensie lives in one house with their cousin Eustace Scrubb. They are often bullied by Eustace and through a magical painting of a ship inside the house they return to Narnia with Eustace and they met up with Prince Caspian aboard the royal ship The Dawn Treader. During their voyage across the sea they encounter different elementals, dragons, a band of lost warriors, merfolk and more.

Aside from the HP Series.. I am pretty much a die hard fan of the Chronicles of Narnia. This movie brought to life... my imaginations which I've read over and over during my childhood years.

Mhmm...Something seems to be lacking about the movie... I don't recommend the 3D Version. not really satisfying.

I always enjoy it whenever I see Aslan. Reepecheep was fun and paired up with Eustace.. it was great tandem and they brought life to the film with their constant arguing. Will Pulter as Eustace clearly did well and would really make you remember him. With its clean humor, Christian values, magical scenes, this would be a great film to watch with the family. It's good that they made it quite simple.. the story... so thought the younger audience can understand easily.

Metaphysical stories would be the transformation of Eustace (from nasty to being the hero who saves the day).....Lucy's dark side which was vanity, Reepecheeps journey beyond....

Convos I Like:

Coriakin: To defeat the darkness out there, you must defeat the darkness inside yourself.

King Caspian: Now's the time to be strong. Never give in.

Lucy: Aslan, will we ever meet with you in our world?
Aslan: You shall.
Lucy: How?
Aslan: Because there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.

Lasher - Anne Rice

Category: Books

Author: Anne Rice

Genre: Witchcraft

This book starts after the mysterious disappearance of Rowan Mayfair. Then there's the sexually adventurous Mona Mayfair who seems to be more powerful than Rowan.

This is the first of the Anne Rice books I've read. I have lots in my bookshelf but haven't got time to finish them. I found out this was the second book of the series. So... i was a bit lost. Mhmmmm... it's dark and sensual. Gory sometimes but not too much. Kinda maddeningly weird.

Convos from the Book:

Michael: Beatrice is perfect. You need a woman for Aaron who appreciates a gentleman, don't you think?
Mona: Uncle, there's no such thing a s a woman who doesn't appreciate a gentleman.
Michael: Do you know everything?
Mona: Nope. Wish I did, but then again... who would want to know everything? God must be bored. What do you think?
Michael: I can't figure it out. You're a firecracker Mona.
Mona: Wait till you see me in a flannel nightgown.

I never want to touch alcohol, or drugs in any form, I want my mind like a scythe.

Trader's Hotel - Pasay City

Category: Hotel

I've been in this hotel since 2006. And I think I've checked in here 5-7 times already whenever we have conventions or out of the country trips. It's not really accessible, the only convenient way is to ride a taxi (at least for an outsider like me).

But, of course since it is a Shangri-La Hotel, the service is superb. They have a K-9 Unit for security.

I love their rooms. The bed and the complimentary fruits during the first day. Or if you are under their Exclusive Club you get to have the complimentary fruits everyday and there's the buffet snack at their Club Lounge. Complimentary bottled water is also present. The personalized message on the screen. The free broadband internet in the room. The buffet area also boasts of it's continental menu.

Date Night - 2010

Category: Movie

Genre: Comedy / Crime

Director: Shawn Levy

Writer: Josh Klausner

Producer: Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, 21 Laps Entertainment, Dune Entertainment

Tagline: One ordinary couple. One Little White Lie.

Cast: Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Mark Wahlberg, Taraji Henson, Jimmi Simpson, Common, William Fichtner, James Franco and more.

The Foster Couple (Steve Carell and Tina Fey) have been married for several years. Their days are of a typical couple, they go to work and they come home and take care of their children. They also have a ritual where they find time to have a date night once a week. When another couple who are close to them announces that they will be separating the Foster's begins to feel that they are heading there as well. So when their date night comes the husband Phil decides to do something different. So, they decided to try and get into a popular restaurant but when they got there it was full, and they were very persistent they decided to "steal" reservation of a couple who doesn't show up and assumed their identity. And that's how everything began when two men approached them mistaking them for the couple.....

Well.. it's kind of entertaining. Not exactly that funny but well... good for popcorn. It's a very simple film... using something ordinary (couple feeling in the rut) and adding a twist. If you are looking for an excellent comedy film.. look for another one.

Funny Quotes:

Phil Foster: Because we're going to find them and we're going to *make* them do it. Once Miletto has the flash drive, this thing ends.
Claire Foster: Okay, I like that. I am completely with you. I just have to ask you one question, and do not judge me. What is a flash drive?
Phil Foster: Seriously?
Claire Foster: Phil, I can't... Phil Foster: Okay, it's a little storage disk that you stick in the side of a laptop.
Claire Foster: Oh, it's a computer sticky thing? That's... in my office, we call it a computer sticky thing.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - 2007

Category: Movies

Genre: Adventure / Fantasy

Director: David Yates

Writer: J.K. Rowling, Michael Goldenberg.

Producer: Warner Bros., HeyDay Films.

Tagline: You Will Lose Everything

Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman, Mark Williams, Evanna Lynch, David Thewlis, Maggie Smith, Julie Walters,James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Chris Rankin, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, Jamie Waylett, Josh Herdman, Helena Bonham Carter and more.

When Harry returns to Hogwarts, few of the students and parents believe him or Dumbledore that Voldemort is back. The Ministry of Magic decided to step in at Hogwarts by appointing the nastiest person as their new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher named as Dolores Umbridge.

This is one of the most exciting part of the HP series for the Hogwarts students. Because this time not only Harry, Ron and Hermione will fight against Voldemort, it will also involve their friends when they formed the Dumbledore's Army. I like Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegod here. She really fits the role. And Dolores Umbridge in this movie is equally annoying and nasty as her character should be.

David Yates gave a great job by doing this movie. You go up and down with all the topsy turvy emotions you will be feeling with the Order fighting against Voldemort's Death Eaters. The high and the low emotions. A lot of things were left out from the book but that is pretty much understandable since it's a great challenge to fit an 800 page book into just 2.5 hours. So you'd take the essential and just make a great job at it. For the story.. I suggest you just read the book. At least the movies are giving us a realm where our imaginations of the book are beginning to come to life. The visuals were great... acting superb! :)

New Places: Ministry of Magic, Room of Requirement.

New Spells: Portego,

Magical Creatures: Thestrals, Centaurs, Giants,

New Characters: Dolores Umbridge, Bellatrix Lestrange,

New Groups: Dumbledore's Army. Inquisitorial Squad, Order of the Phoenix

Funny Convos:

Ron Weasley: Hermione, you are honestly the most wonderful person I have ever met. If I'm ever rude to you...
Hermione Granger: I'll know you've gone back to normal.

Hermione Granger: Don't you understand how she must be feeling? Well, obviously she's feeling sad about Cedric, and therefore confused about liking Harry, and guilty about kissing him. Conflicted because Umbridge is threatening to sack her mum from her job at the Ministry, and frightened about failing her O.W.L.s because she's so busy worrying about everything else.
Ron Weasley: One person couldn't feel all that, they'd explode!
Hermione Granger: Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon.

Quotes I Like:

Remus Lupin: The Minister thinks Dumbledore's after his job.
Harry Potter: But that's insane! No one in their right mind could believe that Dumbledore...
Remus Lupin: Exactly the point. Fudge isn't in his right mind. It's been twisted and warped by fear. Now fear makes people do terrible things, Harry. The last time Voldemort gained power he almost destroyed everything we hold most dear. Now he's returned, and I'm afraid the Minister will do almost anything to avoid facing that terrifying truth.

Harry Potter: Wait... look, it all sounds *great* when you say it like that. But the truth is most of that was just luck. I didn't know what I was doing half the time, I nearly always had help...
Hermione Granger: He's just being modest.
Harry Potter: No, Hermione, I'm not. Facing this stuff in real life is not like school. In school, if you make a mistake you can just try again tomorrow, but out there, when you're a second away from being murdered or watching a friend die right before your eyes... you don't know what that's like.
Hermione Granger: You're right, Harry, we don't. That's why we need your help. Because if we're having any chance against beating... Voldemort.

Harry Potter: Working hard is important, but there's something else that's even more important: believing in yourself. Look at it this way: every great wizard in history has started out as nothing more than we are now - students. If they can do it, why not us?

Hermione Granger: You've done it, Neville! You've found the Room of Requirement!
Ron Weasley: The what?
Hermione Granger: It's also known as the Come and Go Room. The Room of Requirement only appears when a person has real need of it, and is always equipped with the seeker's needs.
Ron Weasley: So, say you really needed a toilet...
Hermione Granger: Charming, Ronald. But yes, that is the general idea.
Harry Potter: It's brilliant! It's like Hogwarts wants us to fight back!

Harry Potter: Are you sure you don't want any help looking?
Luna Lovegood: That's all right. Anyway, my mum always said things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end.
[they look up and see a pair of her shoes hanging from the ceiling arch]
Luna Lovegood: If not always in the way we expect.

Severus Snape: It appears there is a connection between the Dark Lord's mind and your own. Whether he is, as yet, aware of this connection is for the moment unclear. Pray he remains ignorant.
Harry Potter: You mean if he knows about it then, he'll be able to read my mind.
Severus Snape: Read it, control it, unhinge it. In the past it was often the Dark Lord's pleasure to invade the minds of his victims, creating visions designed to torture them into madness. Only after extracting the last exquisite ounce of agony, only when he had them litterly begging for death would he finally... kill them. Used properly, the power of Occlumency will help shield you from access or influence. In these lessons I will attempt to penetrate your mind. You will attempt to resist. Prepare yourself! Legillimens!

Harry Potter: This connection between me and Voldemort... what if the reason for it is that I am becoming more like him? I just feel so angry, all the time. What if after everything that I've been through, something's gone wrong inside me? What if I'm becoming bad?
Sirius Black: I want you to listen to me very carefully, Harry. You're not a bad person. You're a very good person, who bad things have happened to. Besides, the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.

Albus Dumbledore: [looking down at Harry that is being tortured by Voldemort in his mind] Harry... It's not how you are alike. It's how you are not...

Lord Voldemort: [to Dumbledore thru Harry] You've lost, old man.
Harry Potter: [to Voldemort] You're the weak one. And you'll never know love,or friendship. And I feel sorry for you.

Harry Potter: The prophecy said neither one can live while the other one survives. It means one of us is going to have to kill the other, in the end.
Albus Dumbledore: Yes.
Harry Potter: Why didn't you tell me?
Albus Dumbledore: For the same reason you tried to save Sirius. For the same reason your friends saved you. After all these years, after all you've suffered, I didn't want to cause you any more pain. I cared too much about you.

Harry Potter: I've been thinking about something Dumbledore said to me.
Hermione Granger: What's that?
Harry Potter: That even though we've got a fight ahead of us, we've got one thing that Voldemort doesn't have.
Ron Weasley: Yeah?
Harry Potter: Something worth fighting for.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - 2005

Producer:

Tagline:
Dark And Difficult Times Lie Ahead.

Cast:
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Mark Williams, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Robert Pattinson, Jason Isaacs, Tom Felton, Stanislav Ianevski and more.

It is now Harry Potter's fourth year at Hogwarts and he is enjoying his summer vacation with his friends. The movie started with The Quidditch World Cup Final which looked so great on screen. The same frenzy you get during the FIFA World Cup except that it's much more magical and stellar. Also, in this film Hogwarts is hosting " The Triwizard Tournament", an inter-school magical tournament.

The film is also darker than the previous installment, The Prisoner of Azkaban. Eventhough it's 2 hours and 30 minutes, seems like time flies while you are watching this film. I love the music, and how the 2 schools were introduced into Hogwarts it was just oh so lovely.

They did a wonderful job at the underwater scene.

This movie is pretty much a visual treat of the Harry Potter book... and I suggest you read the book for the story.

Watching an HP movie... is really my kind of escape. I just love it.

New Creatures: Nagini *the Serpent*, Death Eaters, Dragons

New Stuff: Portkey, Pensieve. Gillyweed, Veritaserum.

New Characters: Amos Diggory, Cedric Diggory, Bartemus Crouch, Barty Crouch Jr., Mad Eye Moody (Auror), Rita Skeeter

New Spells: Morsmorde, Stupefy, Unforgivable curses: The Imperious Curse, The Cruciatus Curse, The Killing Curse (Avada Kedavra), Age Line, Magic Confundus Charm, Reducto, Priori Incantatum,

Special Events: Quidditch World Cup, Triwizard Tournament, Yule Ball,

Quotes I Like:

Dumbledore: Curiosity is not a sin, Harry. However, from time to time, you should exercise caution.

Dumbledore: People change in the maze. Oh, find the cup if you can. But be very wary; you could just lose yourselves along the way.

Voldemort: The Boy-Who-Lived. How lies have fed your legend, Harry! Do you want to know what really happened thirteen years ago? Shall I divulge how I truly lost my powers? It was love. You see, when dear sweet Lily Potter gave her life for her only son, it provided him with the ultimate protection, I could not touch him. It was old magic, something I should have foreseen. But no matter, no matter, things have changed. I CAN TOUCH YOU... NOW!

James Potter: Harry! When the connection is broken you MUST get to the Portkey. We can linger for a moment to give you some time but only a moment. Do you understand?
Cedric Diggory: Harry. Take my body back, will you? Take my body back to my father.
Lily Potter: Let go. Sweetheart, you're ready. Let go... LET GO!

Dumbledore: No spell can reawaken the dead, Harry. I trust you know that. Dark and difficult times lie ahead. Soon we must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.

Dumbledore: Today we acknowledge a really terrible loss. Cedric Diggory was, as you all know, exceptionally hard working, infinitely fair-minded, and most importantly, a fierce, fierce friend. Therefore, I feel you have the right to know exactly how he died. You see, Cedric Diggory was murdered, by Lord Voldemort. The Ministry of Magic does not wish me to tell you this. But not to do so I feel would be an insult to his memory. Now the pain we all feel at this dreadful loss reminds me, and, reminds us, that though we may come from different countries and speak in different tongues, our hearts beat as one. In light of the recent events, the bonds of friendship made this year will be more important than ever. Remember that, and Cedric Diggory will not have died in vain. You remember that, and we'll celebrate a boy who was kind, and honest, and brave, and true. Right to the very end.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - 2004

Category: Movies

Genre: Fantasy / Adventure

Director: Alfonso Cuaron

Writer: J.K. Rowling, Steve Klowes

Producer: Warner Bros. Pictures, 1492 Pictures, Heyday Films,

Tagline: Secrets Will Be Revealed

Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Gary Oldman, Oliver and James Phelps, Chris Rankin, Julie Walters, Bonnie Wright, Mark Williams, Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane, and more.

Harry is on his Third year at Hogwarts, and they have a new "Defense of the Dark Arts" Teacher. Trouble is also looming since, a dangerous criminal Sirius Black (A trusted aide of Voldemort) has escaped the Wizards' Prison and is coming after Harry. To make everything worse for Harry, he has to deal with Dementors who have been appointed to guard the school gates and whenever the are near they have the most horrible effect on him.

Most of the scenes are kind of dark because of it's story. All of the cast improved here and they really did a great job. The new director really did a great job. Although there were parts that were not seen they really did their best not to deviate from the story.

Love love love the movie. Can't wait to see the next film. :P

New creatures you will see: Hippogriff, Boggart, Werewolves, Dementors, Animagus

New characters: Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew

New stuff: Marauder's Map, Knight's Bus

New Places: Hog's Meade

Spells used: Expecto Patronum, Expelliarmus

I enjoyed the song:

Hogwarts Choir: [singing] In the cauldron boil and bake / Fillet of a fenny snake / Scale of dragon, Tooth of wolf / Witches, mummy, maw and gulf / Double, double, toil and trouble / Fire burn and cauldron bubble! / Double, double, toil and trouble / Fire burn and cauldron bubble! / Double, double, toil and trouble / Fire burn and cauldron bubble! / Something wicked this way comes!

Quotes I Like:

Dumbledore: Mysterious thing, time. Powerful, and when meddled with, dangerous. Sirius Black is in the topmost cell of the dark tower. You know the laws, Miss Granger. You must not be seen, and you would do well, I feel, to return before this last chime. If not, the consequences are too ghastly to discuss. If you succeed tonight, more than one innocent life may be spared. Three turns, should do it, I think.
[He starts to exit, turns back]
Dumbledore: Oh, by the way. When in doubt, I find retracing my steps to be a wise place to begin. Good luck.
[He exits]

Harry: Professor, can I ask you something?
Professor Lupin: You want to know why I stopped you facing that boggart, yes? I would have thought that would be obvious - I assumed it would take the shape of Lord Voldemort.
Harry: I did think of Voldemort - at first. But then I remembered that night on the train... and the dementor...
Professor Lupin: I'm very impressed. That suggests that what you fear most of all... is fear itself. This is very wise.

Harry: Professor, why do the dementors affect me so? More than anyone else, I mean?
Professor Lupin: Listen, dementors are among the foulest creatures to walk this earth. They feed on every good feeling, every happy memory until a person is left with nothing but his worst experiences. The dementors affect you more than others because there are true horrors in your past, horrors your classmates can scarcely imagine. You are not weak, Harry. You have nothing to be ashamed of.
Harry: I'm scared, Professor.
: Well, I'd consider you a fool if you weren't.

Dumbledore: [to Professor Snape] For in dreams, we enter a world that is entirely our own. Let him swim in the deepest ocean or glide over the highest cloud.

Sirius Black
: You know the man you truly are, Remus! This heart is where you truly live! This heart! Here! This flesh is only flesh!
FUNNY:

Ron: Who do you think that is?
Hermione: Professor R. J. Lupin.
Ron: Do you know everything?
[to Harry]
Ron: How is it she knows everything?
Hermione: [annoyed] It's on his suitcase, Ronald.
Ron: Oh.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - 2002

Category: Movie

Genre: Fantasy / Adventure

Director: Chris Columbus

Writer: J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves

Producer: Heyday Films, Warner Bros. Pictures, 1492 Pictures, Miracle Productions

Tagline:Something Evil Has Returned To Hogwarts
Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Richard Griffiths, Fiona Shaw, Harry Melling, Toby Jones, Jim Norton, Veronica Clifford James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Julie Walters, Bonnie Wright, Mark Williams

A Review of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Harry Potter was forced to spend his summer holidays with his muggle relatives. But, then he gets a surprise visitor: Dobby the house-elf who warned him against returning to Hogwarts because he says terrible things are about to happen. Dobby tried everything to prevent Harry from going to Hogwarts but Harry ignores all of Dobby's warning. But, back at Hogwarts , Harry is suddenly hearing mysterious voices from inside the walls, as most of the muggle-born students are being attacked while a message was scrawled on the wall in blood: "The Chamber Of Secrets Has Been Opened. Enemies Of The Heir, Beware" .

Another second round! Haha. I just have to watch all of the Harry Potter series again when I noticed I did not write any review about them. This one is darker than the previous film but very engaging and exciting! It went by fast even though it was a long movie.

Great characters and cast. Of course, the cinematography and the special effects did great!

I want more! I want more! I want more!

Spells Used: Obliviate

New Characters: Dobby (house Elf), Moaning Myrtle, Tom Marvolo Riddle, Gilderoy Lockhart,

New Stuffs: Wizard Sorting Hat, Sword of Gryffindor,

New Creatures: Basilisk, Fox the Phoenix, Aragog (giant spider),
Quotes I Like:

Albus Dumbledore: It's not abilities that shows us what we are. It is our choices (about sorting hat saying he is for Slytherin but Harry choosing to be in Gryffindor.)

Funny:

Ron: Why spiders? Why couldn't it be "follow the butterflies"?

Harry: You'd better clear off before my bones come back, Dobby, or else I might strangle you.
Dobby: [jumps off the bed] Dobby is used to death threats, sir. Dobby gets them five times a day at home.

Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Richard Harris, Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane, Saunders Triplets, Fiona Shaw, Harry Melling, Richard Griffiths, Derek Deadman, Ian Hart, Warwick Davis, John Hurt, Richard Bremmer and more.

This movie is the first film in the Harry Potter series based on the novels by J.K. Rowling. It is the story of an 11 year old boy named Harry Potter who is living with his aunt and uncle and is like a sort of slave for them. They later learned that Harry Potter is a wizard and was invited to attend the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry was snatched from them by Hagrid, who is the grounds keeper for Hogwarts and was thrown into a world very foreign to ordinary people. When he arrived, he realizes he was famous for an incident that happened to him during his birth. Harry makes friends easily with Ron and Hermione but later realizes that within the light of the wizardry world there lies darkness and danger.

I know this is my second time to watch the said movie. I just can't get over the recent HP movie released. (and I can't wait for the last oneeee!!!) Meanwhile, I'm reviewing all the HP movies. Even though this was done years back, but it still remains as one must-see film. A true delight for all ages.. and of course I love the opening magical score... which keeps playing on my mind... and which I used to have as a ringback 2 years ago. Haha. :)

I love the cinematography, the setting, just about everything. Everything is just oh so magical I actually want to enroll at Hogwarts now! Haha. Love it. :)

Ron always makes me laugh with his "i'm-scared-lines", specially with Hermione.

Characters: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Hagrid, Albus Dumbledore, Minerva Mcgonnagal, Severus Snape

Mystical Creatures: Hedwig, Goblins in the bank, Fluffy, the Devil's Snare, Dragons, Unicorn

Magical Stuffs: Sorcerer's Stone (makes you immortal), Invisible Cloak, Mirror of Erised: which shows you what you want.

Spells Used: Alohamora (used to open doors), Wingardium Leviosa (make something levitate e.g. feather), Petrificus Totalus (used to petrify), Lumos Solem (bring sunlight),

Houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin

Quotes I Like:

Albus Dumbledore: It does not do well to live on dreams Harry, and forget to live.

Hermione: You'll be okay, Harry. You're a great wizard. You really are.
Harry: Not as good as you.
Hermione: Me? Books and cleverness. There are more important things: friendship and bravery. And Harry, just be careful.

Professor Severus Snape: There will be no foolish wand-waving or silly incantations in this class. As such, I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion-making. However, for those select few...

Professor Severus Snape: Who possess, the predisposition... I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death.
[notices Harry scribbling on his paper]
Professor Severus Snape: Then again, maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confident enough to not pay attention!
[steps over to Harry]
Professor Severus Snape: Mister Potter. Our new celebrity.

Dumbledore: It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends.

Dumbledore: Only a person who wanted to find the Stone - find it, but not use it - would be able to get it. That is one of my more brilliant ideas. And between you and me, that is saying something.

Dumbledore: Harry, do you know why Professor Quirrell couldn't bear to have you touch him?
[Harry shakes his head]
Dumbledore: It was because of your mother. She sacrificed herself for you, and that kind of act leaves a mark.
[Harry reaches up to touch his scar]
Dumbledore: No, no. This kind of mark cannot be seen. It lives in your very skin.
Harry: What is it?
Dumbledore: Love, Harry. Love.

Funny:

Hermione: Stop moving, both of you. This is devil's snare! You have to relax. If you don't, it'll only kill you faster!
Ron: Kill us faster? Oh, now I can relax!

Ron: [Harry and Ron arrive late to Transfiguration, relieved that Professor McGonagall isn't there yet] Whew, made it. Can you imagine the look on old McGonagall's face if we were late?
[the cat sitting at the head of the class suddenly transforms into her]
Ron: That was bloody brilliant!
Professor McGonagall: Well, thank you for that assessment, Mr Weasley. Perhaps it would be more useful if I were to transfigure Mr Potter and yourself into a pocket watch? That way, one of you might be on time.
Harry: We got lost.
Professor McGonagall: Then perhaps a map? I trust you don't need one to find your seats.

Ron: What do they think they're doing, keeping a thing like that locked up in a school?
Hermione: You don't use your eyes, do you? Didn't you see what it was standing on?
Ron: I wasn't looking at its feet! I was a bit preoccupied with its heads... or maybe you didn't notice? There were three!

Ron: Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid, fat rat yellow!

Summary and Review of the Movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

As Voldemort's power is growing stronger. Harry, Ron and Hermione decides to finish Dumbledore's work and find the rest of the Holcruxes to defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort. Voldemort is taking over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. But there's little hope for the Harry, Ron and Hermione and the rest of the Wizarding World.... they must all plan well.

(Did you know M. Night Shymalan was interested to direct this movie? Linguist expert Dr. Francis Nolan devised the Parseltongue language for this and the other Harry Potter films which feature the serpent speak.)

Harry Potter movies always gives me a sense of getting out of this world. Ahhhh. And how I don't want the movie to end. Of course the ending makes you want to watch the Part 2 already!!!

This one was nicely made. And to say nice is an underrated description because it exceeds all expectations of both casual viewers and hardcore fans. Very loyal to the book (read it 2 years back or so). The characters gave a really strong performance, making you hate them (if they are supposed to be hated) and making you love them even more.

The movie matches the Title. Being all doom-and-gloomy specially it's cinematography. The soundtrack matched it as well (but, I missed the magical light soundtrack of HP by John Williams.. but I know it doesn't fit the gloomy setting in this installment.)

It also startles you at the right moment. It has a mix of dark and light.. and a lil emotional here and there... basta it's Great! Great! Great!!! :)

I can watch it over and over again and still enjoy this great film.

Quotes I like:

Pius Thicknesse: You have nothing to fear, if you have nothing to hide.

Bellatrix Lestrange: You stupid elf! You could have killed me!
Dobby the House Elf: Dobby never meant to kill! Dobby only meant to maim, or seriously injure!

Harry Potter: This is mental.
Hermione : Completely mental.
Ron Weasley: The world's mental.

Bellatrix Lestrange: How dare you defy your master!
Dobby: Dobby has no master. Dobby is a free elf, and Dobby has come to save Harry Potter and his friends!

Ron Weasley: The deluminator. It doesn't just turn off lights. I don't know how it work but Christmas morning, I was sleeping in this little pub, keeping away from some Snatchers, and I heard it. A voice. Your voice, Hermione. You said my name. Just my name. Like a whisper. So I took it, clicked it and this tiny ball of light appeared. And I knew. It flew towards me, the ball of light, right through my chest and straight through me. Right here
[he touches his heart]
Ron Weasley: And I knew it was going to take me where I needed to go.

A review and summary of the movie
My Love.

This is a Korean film.

Different "first love" stories will be witnessed on this movie, by three couples and one single man as they all experience the miracle of love during the Christmas season and Eclipse.

It's a little bit like Love Actually only one that involves "first love", and this time you can only concentrate on 3-4 stories. There are flashback scenes which can sometimes confuse you at the beginning.

I enjoyed the whole film and it has a twist on it's own. Sometimes it makes you sad, the next time it can make you smile or laugh. Heartwarming and very touching with funny moments too. Korean movies does that to you, only this time it's lesser melodrama. ;)

Brideshead Revisited - 2008

Category: Movie

Genre: Drama / Romance

Director: Julian Jarrold

Writer: Andrew Davies, Jeremy Brock

Producer: Ecosse Films, BBC UK, UK Film Council and more

Tagline: Privilege. Ambition. Desire. At Brideshead Everything Comes at a Price.

Cast: Matthew Goode, Ben Whishaw, Thomas Morrison, David Barrass, Anna Madeley, Sarah Crowden, Stephie Carlile, Peter Barnes, Hayley Atwell, Patrick Malahide, Richard Teverson, Joseph Beattle, and more.

Summary and Review of the movie Brideshead Revisited.

This movie was based on a popular novel and also a miniseries. I haven't read the book nor watched the miniseries.

The movie began with Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode) at wartime stationed in Brideshead narrated about his memories of the place. This is a story of friendship, forbidden love, religiosity, homosexuality set in England prior to the Second World War.

I really did not quite get the film. I was not involved with the whole thing. Maybe, I should read the book and understand what it really is about. But, a lot of people have raved about this and all.
Not exactly my cup of tea.

Quotes:

Charles Ryder: [Internal monologue while walking out of Brideshead Castle] If you asked me now who I am, the only answer I could give with any certainty would be my name: Charles Ryder. For the rest: my loves, my hates, down even to my deepest desires, I can no longer say whether these emotions are my own, or stolen from those I once so desperately wished to be. On second thought, one emotion remains my own. Alone among the borrowed and the second-hand, as pure as that faith from which I am still in flight: Guilt.

Boy Markaster: What do you want to be an artist for? I mean, what's the point of it? Why don't you just buy a bloody camera and take a bloody photograph and stop giving yourself airs? That's what I want to know.
Charles Ryder: I don't give myself airs.
Boy Markaster: Uh, yes, you do. And anyway you haven't answered my question. Come on! Answer! Answer! Answer!
Charles Ryder: Because, a camera is a mechanical device which records a moment in time, but not what that moment means or the emotions that it evokes. Whereas, a painting, however imperfect it may be, is an expression of... feeling. An expression of love. Not just a copy of something.

Tagline: Hell on Heels

Cast: Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, Adrian Greiner, Tracie Thoms, Rich Sommer, Daniel Sunjata, David Marshall Grant, James Naughton and more

Summary and Review of the Movie The Devil Wears Prada.

In New York, the simple and naive Andrea Sachs who just graduated from journalism begins looking for a job. The dreams of Andrea becoming a journalist, becomes a professional challenge when she landed on a job as second assistant to the sophisticated Miranda Priestly. She is the ruthless and merciless executive of the Runway fashion magazine. Eventhough a lot of girls would die to get into her shoes and be Miranda's assistant, Andrea finds it hard to balance her friends, career and her dreams.

It's my second time to watch this movie, but i wasn't able to write a review when I watched this years back. This is one of the movies I would recommend to watch with girlfriends. :) If you are into fashion or writing you would enjoy this movie. Meryl Streep really did her part well as a nasty boss. Great. Great.

Although there's really nothing new on the plot... but.. well this sure entertained me. :)

Quotes I find Funny:

Miranda Priestly: By all means move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills me.

Richard Sachs: What does she want you to do, call the National Guard and have her airlifted out of there?
Andy Sachs: Of course not. Could I do that?

Andy Sachs: That's not what I... no, that was different. I didn't have a choice.
Miranda Priestly: No, no, you chose. You chose to get ahead. You want this life. Those choices are necessary.
Andy Sachs: But what if this isn't what I want? I mean what if I don't wanna live the way you live?
Miranda Priestly: Oh, don't be ridiculous. Andrea. Everybody wants this. Everybody wants to be us.

Andy Sachs: She's not happy unless everyone around her is panicked, nauseous or suicidal.

I Robot - 2004

Category: Movie

Genre: Sci-Fi / Future

Director: Alex Proyas

Writer: Jeff Vintar and Akiva Goldsman, Isaac Asimov

Producer: Twentieth Century Fox, Mediastream Vierte Film, Davis Entertainment, Laurence Mark Productions, Overbrook Entertainment, Canlaws Productions

Tagline: Laws are made to be broken.

Cast: Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan, Shia Labeouf, Alan Tudyk, James Cromwell, Bruce Greenwood, Adrian Richard, Chi Mcbride, Jerry Wasserman, Fiona Hogan, Peter Shinkoda, David Haysom, Scott Heindi, Sharon Wilkins, Craig March and more.

This movie is set on year 2035, wherein robots are everyday objects and are programmed to live alongside humans. Detective Del Spooner (a Chicago technophobic cop) is being called out to investigate the apparent suicide of the scientist behind U.S. Robotics, Dr. Alfred Lanning.

It was my Nth time to watch this movie, but I never got around to review this one. I own a copy of this movie and its a wonderful movie about purpose. I like the acting of Will Smith here (funny and charming). And of course fell in love with the robot Sonnie. :)

I like the message of the story actually. Not just about laws being broken (regarding the 3 laws of robotics invented by Isaac Asimov), but about having a purpose. It's a great mix of a Hollywood movie with action and philosophy. Pretty much like The Matrix but also different.....

I really like the twist of the movie. And the part where you have to guess whether Sonny was a good guy or not....

Quotes I Like:

Del Spooner: Human beings have dreams. Even dogs have dreams, but not you, you are just a machine. An imitation of life. Can a robot write a symphony? Can a robot turn a... canvas into a beautiful masterpiece?
Sonny: Can you?

Sonny: What does this action signify? [winks]
Sonny: As you walked in the room, when you looked at the other human. What does it mean?
[winks]
Detective Del Spooner: It's a sign of trust. It's a human thing. You wouldn't understand.

Detective Del Spooner: I thought you were dead.
Sonny: Technically I was never alive, but I appreciate your concern.

Sonny: What about the others? Now that I've fulfilled my purpose, I don't know what to do.
Detective Del Spooner: I think you'll have to find your way like the rest of us, Sonny. That's what Dr. Lanning would've wanted. That's what it means to be free.

The Siege - 1998

Tagline:

Cast: Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis, Annette Bening, Tony Shalboub, Sami Bouajila, Ahmed Ben Larby, Mosleh Mohamed, Lianna Pai, Mark Valley, Jack Gwaitney, David Proval and more.

A series of escalating terrorist attacks were made in New York City after the US Military abducted an Islamic religious leader. Meanwhile, the threat of using the "Martial Law" for New York is threatening the rest of the people.

This one is one good objective film. All of the elements are here. From the terrorists, to the innocent ones, the lawmakers, the good people and the people who are so greedy of power. It's a well-made suspense film.

Summary and Review of the movie A Bronx Tale.

Sonny the gangster is the big man in Calogero's Bronx neighborhood. Calogero always admired Sonny. One day, Calogero witnessed a shooting wherein he was asked to testify against Sonny but he did not implicate Sonny. It started a lasting bond between the gangster and Calogero which his father, a bus driver named Lorenzo disapproves.

It's quite a slow movie, but I like it. It's simple. No need for effects but the story gets to you. Each character gets to you. It's deeply moving. And I think this movie is one of the best underrated movies. About wasted talents, father and son, friendship, loyalty, and more.

Quotes I Like:

Lorenzo: The saddest thing in life is wasted talent.
Calogero: Sonny and my father always said that when I get older I would understand. Well, I finally did. I learned something from these two men. I learned to give love and get love unconditionally. You just have to accept people for what they are, and I learned the greatest gift of all. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent, and the choices that you make will shape your life forever. But you can ask anybody from my neighborhood, and they'll just tell you this is just another Bronx tale.

Overview and Summary of the movie A Cool, Dry Place.

After Russell's(Vince Vaughn) wife abandoned him in Chicago, he moved in to rural Kansas and tries his best to balance his work as an attorney while caring for his five year old son Calvin(Kevin Moat) and his sideline as a high school basketball coach.

Just as he starts to develop a new relationship with a veterinarian's assistant, his ex-wife suddenly reappears and wants to re-assert herself in her husband and son's life. On top of the romantic conflict, he is also suddenly presented with the opportunity of a lifetime to join a major firm in Dallas.

This is a heartwarming Father and Son story. I loved Kevin Moat's acting! What a cute child he is. I find their bond in the movie cute. The movie might seem mellow but I think this is one of those movies which were underrated. It has a few funny parts too. This movie made me teary eyed too.

Sex and the City 2 - 2010

Category: Movie

Genre: Comedy / Drama / Romance

Director: Michael Patrick King

Writer: Michael Patrick King and Candace Bushnell

Taglines: Carrie On.

Cast: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Jason Lewis, Lewie Garson, Mario Cantone, Alexandra Fong, Liza Minnelli, Max Ryan, Lynn Cohen, Parker Fong, Alice Eve and more.

Overview and Summary of Sex and the City 2.

It has been two years since Carrie Bradshaw married "Mr.Big". At the same time Charlotte must deal with her two young daughters. Carrie on the other hand must deal with the differences he and Big has overtime. Miranda is at the same time coping with a new boss that attacks her most of the time when she speaks out, while they all wrestle with the pressures of life, love and careers in Manhattan, Samantha bags the fashionable foursome an all-expense paid trip to Abu Dhabi as a public relations agent.

After watching Knight and Day, i shifted to this movie onboard Singapore Airlines. Since, I am heading to United Arab of Emirates, it's quite fitting to watch a movie set in one of those states. At least, I got a preview of what lies ahead of me. I always loved the friendship of the foursome. It was nice seeing them going through the normal motions of life and sticking up for each other and the clothes! :) I love the scene where they sang "I am Woman" on the stage. It was one of the best scenes with them. But, somehow it lacked the plot and I think the "Samantha" character went overboard with her being vulgar in a different country. I don't think someone could be as bold as that - in their own country, yes but not on a different country specially the Middle East.

Knight and Day - 2010

Category: Movie

Genre: Action / Comedy

Director: James Mangold

Cast: Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Peter Sarsgaard, Jordi Molla, Viola Davis, Paul Dano, Falk Hentschel, Marc Blucas, Lennie Loftin, Maggie Grace, Rich Manley, Dale Dye, Celia Weston and more.

Summary and Overview of the Movie Knight and Day.

June Havens(Cameron Diaz) suddenly finds her everyday life tangled up with that of a secret agent named Roy Milner (Tom Cruise) aboard a plane one day. June tried to get off the mess but realized she needs him and off they went to a series of misadventures. Their will to stay alive stretches across the globe, and they soon learn that all they can count on is each other.

I watched this while I was on board Singapore Airlines on the way to Dubai. :) Good thing the Kris entertainment set on board was jam packed with good movies. This was good company for a 7 hour flight. It was comical and pretty far fetched but that's what funny movies slash action movie with a dose of the spy element always is. It doesn't ask a lot from us the audience but makes you want to just enjoy the spy-filled-tainment ride. ;)

Resident Evil: After life - 2010

Category: Movie

Genre: Sci-Fi/Future/Action

Director: Paul W.S. Anderson

Writer: Paul W.S. Anderson

Producer: Constantin Film Production, Davis Films and Impact Pictures

Tagline: She's back and she's bringing a few of her friends.

Cast: Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Spencer Locke, Boris Kodjoe, Sienna Guillory, Kacey Barnfield, Norman Yeung and more.

Summary and Overview of the Movie Resident Evil: After Life.

The Earth was ravaged by a virus infection, turning its human victims into the "Undead". Alice (Milla Jovovich), is still on her journey to find the survivors and thus lead them to safety. It's first scene was shot in Tokyo. Alice and some of the survivors later got a radio transmittal about calling them all aboard to a ship called "Arcadia". Along the way, she finds an old friend and they both went to Los Angeles to find a few more survivors on top of the prison with thousands of Undead waiting to break down the barricade.

I don't think I saw all of the Resident Evil Series... I think I've only seen one of it. Oh well. It was uhmm grossly entertaining. If you know what I mean? With all those ghastly mutations the freaky Umbrella Corporation can experiment on. But, like I said, it was entertaining. Entertaining enough to get a 3 from me. :) I can't get over the fact that Luther was left there. Still Alive. :(

and somehow the movie did lack something. Oh well. Still getting a three for making me shut my eyes. :P
