Majid's Persian Kebab - Davao City

Category: Food / Restaurant

Location: Rizal St., Davao City

Conveniently located at the downtown part of the area, this is the favorite of students and most locals. Aside from it being affordable, it also serves yummy Persian dishes. And if you are lucky, you get to see "Majid's" himself, who used to be a star for action films before retiring here in Davao. You see photos of his movies around the area.

The place is not air conditioned, which makes it even more quaint.

People's favorites:

Beef Cholo, Chicken Yogurt

and my favorite dash.... Grapeseed Powder

I also fancied their Yogurt Juice. However, it fills you up quickly, so I think taking the pitcher won't help unless you are a group of 7 :)

Almo Marina

Category: Restaurant

Location: SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City

Overview and review

We often visit this restaurant whenever we are at the SM Mall of Asia. I usually order their Lasagna.

I also enjoy the juices that they serve.... and of course the dessert. :)

Their beef steaks are also great specially since it's from Australia.

Well, it's a breather among fast food... :) And settle into something in the middle. Good food and great drinks to boot!

Mister Kabab - U.P. AyalaLand Techno Hub

Category: Restaurant

City: Quezon City, Philippines

So, in one of our business trips, our Area Sales Coordinator took us to a Mediterranean Restaurant @ U.P. Techno Hub called Mister Kabab, which was recommended by one of the Network Leaders in the area. :)

It was one of the unique meals we've had, since we always settle for more known restaurants rather than trying out something new in the area. Great dining experience, and yes, it made me miss Madjid's back in Davao. This one is classier compared to Madjid :)

I got myself a Beef Kabab :) A yogurt drink would've been good with this but we opted for a Halo Halo in another restaurant so I did not get to taste their yogurt drink.

Razon's Restaurant

Category: Food

Desserts

On one of my recent roadtrips we dropped by at Razon's.

It's a popular local Northern Luzon restaurant which is famed for it's halo-halo. And true enough the place was jampacked and you have to muddle your way or worse wait for a few minutes to be seated.

It's not as good as Aling Foping's though. But, I bet it's the best in Luzon... soooo. :)

They have good meals rin naman. :)

Well, it's good for transits.

I'm also seeing a lot of Razon's here in Davao already, but haven't really tried eating here.

No Reservations - 2007

Category: Movie

Genre: Comedy / Drama

Director: Scott Hicks

Writer: Carol Fuchs

Producer: Castle Rock Entertainment, Storefront Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures

Cast: Catherine-Zeta Jones, Aaron Eckhart, Abigail Breslin, Patricia Clarkson, Jenny Wade, Bob Balaban, Brian F. O'Byrne, Lily Rabe, Eric Silver and more.

Tagline: Something's Cooking This Summer

[a remake of a German film Mostly Martha]

Kate (Catherine-Zeta Jones), lives her life as a master chef with an intensity that can captivate and intimidate everyone around her. She seems to have it all together alone, but then her life as a top chef changes when she becomes the guardian of her young niece.

It's ratatouille only there's no rat and its not a cartoon! And this time the movie did not focus on the guy. Its the woman chef! :) I had a wonderful time watching the film, it's heartwarming and there was enough time to develop the character.  I like Zooey's character.... and of course the feel-good ending...

Yes, it may be quiet an ordinary comedy-romance thingy... but still, it never failed to entertain me. ;)

Roadhouse Cafe

Category: Restaurant

Location: SM Davao City and also in Bukidnon

I first ate here last January 16, 2008. Been eating there ever since.. :) once every 2 months?? But, lately only when we have friends and guests and we have extra time to go to SM do we dine here.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Davao. :)

I love their Mango Pandan Dessert. And you better order their sizzling pochero! For the veggie afficionados, you gotta try the Pinakbet. Great service too. Ambience, gives you a cozy familial feeling.

Roadhouse Cafe is located at SM 1st floor in front of National Bookstore in Davao City.

Little Quiapo - Quezon City

Category: Restaurant

Location: Quezon City, Philippines

I ate there last August 2007 and it was for dinner.

This is a quaint little restaurant in Q.C. And it is not Little Quiapo for nothing. This place offers the best halo-halo and palabok in town.
Last April 18, 2008 we were invited by a good family friend of ours (my mom and I) to eat there.

April 18, 2008 (already ate there last August 2007)

Treehouse - Quezon City

Category: Restaurant

Location: Quezon City

True to it's name, it's facade is designed just like a tree house. At the back there are 4 "cottage like" dining places (refer to the picture below). It was a Sunday when we dined there and there weren't many people over there. Although, by Tuesday (pay day) it was buzzing with excitement. All waiters got pretty busy.

During our first visit we ordered their "Filipino Fiesta" package which includes bulalo, sizzling sisig, pinakbet, kinunot and a steamed pandan rice with leche flan as a desert. We ordered fresh buko juices as drinks. This package is good for 4 which would cost you 1,099.

The kinunot (our fave) was the best. I also like their pinakbet and bulalo.

Aside from the Filipino Fiesta, they also have Kare Kare Lauriat, Inihaw lauriat and crispy pata lauriat.

During our second visit we found out that our favorite "kinunot" is actually a sting ray with creamy coconut milk. You guys ought to try that specialty. Remember: "Kinunot" when you visit this restaurant.

Trellis - Quezon City

Category: Restaurant

Location: Kalayaan Avenue, Quezon City

They say a lot of local actors and actresses dine here.

If you say Trellis, it usually screams "sisig". ("sisig" is their specialty, it is a grilled pork dish). It's setting is pretty much like what we had back in Imay's (Bacolod).

To all smokers this would be a good place but to non-smokers it's que-horror.

Since, I don't eat pork, I can't order their pork sisig.. So.. we opted for the sizzling squid with dilis. The combination was yummy, specially the sauce that they placed on top. Their ChopSuey here is better than what we had back in Mabuhay Panciteria. We also ordered their tuna sisig *although I like Davao Tuna To Go's Tuna Sisig better.

I think this is one of the hang-out for people who practically lives for the night life. There's not much selection of fruit beverages although they have a lot of wine and alcoholic beverages to choose from.

All in all I had a nice dining experience at Trellis.

Mabuhay Panciteria - Malolos, Bulacan

Category: Food

Place: Malolos, Bulacan

The one who guided us said that this "panciteria" is owned by a basketball player. He mentioned a name and since I'm no basketball fan the name escaped my mind.

Our order came a bit late. Of course, from their name their specialty would be: Pancit. I enjoyed their pinakbet and of course their pancit as well. Their chopsuey came out as mediocre. Not that great but not that bad.

Italiani's - SM

Category: Restaurant

Place: SM Megamall

It's price would compete with Marco Polo's Cafe Marco. But, of course the buffet is quite different because everything is ITALIAN. So, if you're into Italian dishes, this place is best for you. You can choose to just order from their unique menu or avail their buffet.

There are lots of choices and is constantly refilled with different dishes. You would surely enjoyed their food ranging from pastas to dessert. There is also a place there where you can create your own pasta. *cool huh?* I also like their viand, of course specially their desserts: tiramisu and cheesecake *imagine my smile when I saw two of my faves over there*

Great place to eat with family, friends or even with your lover.

They also have great customer service.

Was there: April 11 and April 24

Swiss Deli - Davao

Category: Restaurant / Food

A review and overview of Swiss Deli.

Swiss Deli is a restaurant located in front of Damosa and beside Chevrolet.

It's been there for a couple of years but we haven't even dropped by and tried what they have to offer. Just recently they expanded. Expansion means good business and since it's a restaurant it must've something in their dish that is good.

Before 2007 ended we got to dine with my family at Swiss Deli.

Just from the looks of the place it gives us the air that screams EXPENSIVE. Yes, it sure is. But it is not expensive for nothing.

Before you enter the dining area, you will be greeted with a variety of Swiss goods from chocolates to wines and hams. So, it's basically not just a restaurant but a specialty store rolled into one.

If you are looking for a place here in Davao that serves Turkey, this place is just the restaurant that would do you a favor. It serves Turkey. Yum. I finally got the chance to eat one. They have a variety of sausages for you to choose from their menu.

When you go here do not look at the price. Just order. Hehe.

I like the way they served the Tiramisu. Totally different from the one in La Toscana (but I guess I prefer the La Toscana style).

Pictures would follow. It's on my mom's phone. :)

Turquoise Turkish Restaurant - Davao

Category: Restaurant

Place: SM City Davao

Merhaba! It's "Hello" in Turkish. I've been hearing a song two months ago when we were in Malaysia with the words "merhaba merhaba haba".

Anyhow, this is a new restaurant in Davao located in SM City. *Davao also offers a Pakistani restaurant and a Kebab resto downtown*

Since our taste buds wanted to eat something new, me and my parents decided to try it out. Of course, since this is a Turkish restaurant expect SPICE and everything Onion and Tomatoes.

I ordered their Chicken Curry, my Dad ordered Chicken Saute and my mom ordered something beef *I forgot the name of the dish* All three dishes were served in sizzling plates. By the looks of it, it's actually easy to make and there are more spices compared to the beef and chicken. I'm not a lover of spice and tomatoes but I managed to eat them. It's actually "yum".

Yemekleriniz chok leizizdi. Haha. And if you translate that into English it would be "The food was excellent".

We ordered Baklava. A dessert straight from Turkey for 69 pesos. It's soooo tiny and sweet. Uber sweet, really. But it's ok, since we just wanted to taste it. It's a delicacy from Turkey.

I like the interior of the restaurant. Every shades of "turquoise" is apparent. We actually love the lamp or something that came from Turkey. We asked the manager if we could possibly buy them and actually they are working something out to sell those and they would inform us soon and that would probably be done next year. We also met the nephew of the owner. A turk. A handsome one at that. Of course, Turks tend to be handsome naman talaga.

Since it's Turkish all food are HALAL certified.

Afiyet Olsoon *Enjoy Your Meal*

*i have pictures of the interior but its still on my phone. to follow na lang.*

Giusseppe - Lucena City

Category: Places / Restaurant

Located in Lucena City, Quezon.

It's actually a bar and restaurant. They have yummy food. You better order their best seller's. (I didn't that time..but the ones with us said they have yum best seller's. of course how can it be a best seller if it weren't right? hehe).

I pretty much liked the interior of their restaurant. Their place also has a function hall where you can prolly rent it for business meetings or a large family gathering.

I haven't been around in Lucena that much.... soo.. I can't say this is their best. But they have a nice menu... although we were often told "oh sorry sir.. we dont have that anymore." better ask "what do you have available then?".

But, in fairness to the restobar.... it has good food. :) Nice place for a good conversation.... a date perhaps? ;p

Imay's - Bacolod

Category: Food

Imay's in Bacolod is one of the "must-try-it" restaurants in their place.

Everything is great about the place. The facade and the interior and even the background music suits the ambience (bossa nova songs). It's usually full when the clock strikes 8pm. People would probably eat here before partying.

Just like Hyskos they serve GREAT food and it comes inexpensively.

Cheese Sticks - Php 55.00

For appetizers, I tried their cheese sticks and when it arrived I was surprised because they made it differently compared to what I am used to here in Davao. In Davao cafe's they serve cheese sticks using the "lumpia wrapper", but here I think they use bread crumbs or something... I'm not sure. And you wouldn't dare say it's "bitin" because it's full of cheese.. super super. Soo... cheese lovers this is the treat for you. :)

Sizzling Tuna Belly

Since, I have a thing for "sizzlers" I ordered a sizzling bangus and sizzling tuna belly. Both, tasted great as in SUPER to the max (what an exaggeration, but really!). I really enjoyed eating at the place because the food was great hehe. (And you wouldn't worry about ordering a lot since the price is very affordable.)

Sizzling Tuna Bangus (veryy yum).

I have been eating sea foods and never veggies during my stay in Bacolod, so we decided to order two vegetable dishes.

We had the "Grilled Eggplant topped with tomatoes". I don't know how it is officially called. I'm sure anyone who hates eating veggie would love to try this because it is justttt sooo yummy!!.

Grilled Eggplant topped with tomatoes & Porbidang Kang Kong

We also had the "Porbidang Kang Kong". The name perked my interest. Maybe it is called "porbida" because it is hot and spicy at the same time. I'm a person who does not like hot and spicy foods that much (anything too much) but this one was just right. Another Yum! Super Super. I'm actually asking my mom to make this dish. Hehe.

Dessert: Guinamis and Blueberry Cheesecake.

So, I had blueberry cheesecake for dessert. Since, I am a cake person I just have to have a bit. Haha. It's also yummy.... i think all cakes for me are yummy. Not expensive also it's just Php55.00 (not bad cause in Davao this cost from 80-120).

I also had the guinamis. Full of sago and gulaman. ALmost like a halohalo but not quite. Just fine.

Hyskos - Pala Pala - Bacolod

Category: Food & Restaurant

Review and overview of Hyskos in Bacolod, the City of Smiles.

Hyskos
is located near the seashore in Bacolod. It's in a place called "pala-pala" or "tulahan". There are a string of eateries or "karinderya's" in the place and Hyskos is one of the popular eateries who serves good food.

Pala-pala is a very unique place. They have the wet market at the back(very near), where you get to buy seafood at a very low price and have it cooked at an eatery, say for example, Hyskos. (But, you can order if you don't want the hassle of buying at the wet market).

I just love the Sizzling Blue Marlin! Lots of garlic with this dish and very yum just a tad too oily but we get to eat this once in a blue moon, so it's pretty much A-Ok.

I also like the crab meat which was fried with eggs I suppose. Very tasty and no hassle with having to open the crab and all.

I love the sinigang na bangus... as well.

They were all served YUMMY!!!! SUPER! DUPER! One good thing about the place was that it is not expensive.
