No Reservations - 2007

Category: Movie

Genre: Comedy / Drama

Director: Scott Hicks

Writer: Carol Fuchs

Producer: Castle Rock Entertainment, Storefront Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures

Cast: Catherine-Zeta Jones, Aaron Eckhart, Abigail Breslin, Patricia Clarkson, Jenny Wade, Bob Balaban, Brian F. O'Byrne, Lily Rabe, Eric Silver and more.

Tagline: Something's Cooking This Summer

[a remake of a German film Mostly Martha]

Kate (Catherine-Zeta Jones), lives her life as a master chef with an intensity that can captivate and intimidate everyone around her. She seems to have it all together alone, but then her life as a top chef changes when she becomes the guardian of her young niece.

It's ratatouille only there's no rat and its not a cartoon! And this time the movie did not focus on the guy. Its the woman chef! :) I had a wonderful time watching the film, it's heartwarming and there was enough time to develop the character.  I like Zooey's character.... and of course the feel-good ending...

Yes, it may be quiet an ordinary comedy-romance thingy... but still, it never failed to entertain me. ;)

Transporter 2 - 2005

Category: Movie

Genre: Action

Writer: Luc Besson, Robert Mark Kamen

Director: Louis Letterier

Producer: Europa Corp., TFI Films Productions, Current Entertainment

Cast: Jason Statham, Amber Valletta, Kate Nauta, Allessandro Gassman, Matthew Modine, Jason Flemying, Keith David and more.

Tagline: The Best In The Business Is Back In The Game.

Frank Martin (Jason Statham) is the best when it comes to specializing moving goods or humands of all kinds as a mercenary "transporter". He just delivers, no more questions. As a favor to a friend, he was asked to become a driver for the wealthy Billings family. And was able to bond with the young son, Jack. But, then Jack is kidnapped and Frank must once again use his tried and tested combat skills to retrieve Jack.

As much as I hate catching the second part of a movie series... well, here I am watching the 2nd part of Transporter. Great effects and definitely entertaining action scenes, and things blowing up.

Plot? well, not necessarily original.. just that he is just one bad-ass guy who can transport! LOL. All in all it was entertaining. Don't place too much thought about its not possible because it is clearly just something to blow your minds... and well for you to have a good time. :)

Predators - 2010

Category: Movie

Genre: Action / Adventure / Sci-Fi

Writer: Alex Litvak, Michael Finch,

Director: Nimrod Antal

Producer: Twentieth Century Fox

Cast: Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Danny Trejo and more.

Tagline: The most dangerous killers on the planet... but this is not our planet.

8 men(woman)  of different backgrounds, a mercenary, a military, a soldier, a criminal, a militia, a drug lord, a yakuza and a doctor, finds themselves waking up after a free fall in an unknown jungle. Walking around the jungle, they discover that they are on a different planet and that they are prey of of merciless aliens called Predators in a deadly hunting game.

Well, I never expected to be quite taken with the film. Well, not exactly taken... but you know, I kind of enjoyed the unexpected turn around in the end. And here I am, thinking I'd know which is which. For some parts, I did, but then I never expected the end. ;) If you know what I mean.

Anyway, effects, was good. Cinematography, is great. It moves in an exhilarating pace. There's good enough reason, they never showed those effin predators at the beginning, because it added up to the whole thrill of it. Played on people's fears, "the unknown".
I did guessed who would be left after the film would be over. (favorite game i play, whenever I watch something).

I know a lot are disappointed because they were pre-judging it over the previous "Predator" film. But, i feel it's a good re-imagining of the film. Of course, the original may deem to be better. But, this one can stand on its own as well - for me. :)

Matrix Revolutions - 2003

 Category: Movie

Genre: Action / Adventure / Sci-Fi

Director: Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski

Writer: Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski

Producer: Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures

Cast: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Mary Alice, Helmut Bakaitis, Monica Bellucci, Ian Bliss, David Bowers and more

Tagline:  Everything that has a beginning has an end.

The human city of Zion is now preparing to defend itself against the oncoming massive invasion of the machines and the chances of surviving is nil. While Neo on the other hand fights to end the war at a different level while he opposes Agent Smith.

Choices and Beliefs was the message. Matrix sure is one layered film, there are references of the one, and symbolism used in the film splashed all over. It was quite a good way to end, and this part showed more action and keeps you on the edge. Eeep. Flesh vs. Machines? Eeeeep. Anyhoo, film wise, it has good special effects.

Sixth Sense - 1999

Category: Movie

Genre: Suspense

Director: M. Night Shymalan

Writer:M. Night Shymalan

Producer: Barry Mendel Productions, Hollywood Pictures, Kennedy/Marshall Company

Cast: Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette, Olivia Williams, Trevor Morgan, Donnie Wahlberg, Mischa Barton and more

Tagline: 1...Sight 2...Sound 3...Smell 4...Taste 5..Touch 6...The Sixth Sense

A boy named Cole(Haley Joel Osment), communicates with spirits that don't know they're dead, seeks the help of a disheartened child psychologist named Malcom Crowe(Bruce Willis).  Crowe then spends a lot of time with the boy Cole, who is his only hope.

Either it's way too scary for something with minimal "gore", or I had just one too many coffee for the day. But, yeah I have to hand it to M.Night Shymalan for creating a movie that can be so scary using less - gore but with only your imagination to play with. This is a well crafted movie, that would allow a viewer to really be glued in the story. It's a simple film.... but a brilliant one.

Work of the Angels - Kat Goldring

Category: Book

Genre: Mystery

Author: Kat Goldring

It's a mystery book about a curious death in the small town

I love how this book manages to mix modern mystery, romance with a dash of Native American Indian and Celtic Traditions and also Witchcraft and some metaphysical aspects.

I fancied the title, and so I bought it. I have a thing of buying titles with: angels, love or fairy tales on it, sometimes to the point of not checking the back cover of what it is about.

Anyhoo, little did I know, this book is the third of it's series. But, good thing it's a mystery series, so every book will have a new thing and you don't need to really read the previous books since you will just be updated.

So, why am I sharing this? :) To put it simply.. I'm crushing on a book character! Oh dear. My love life is becoming pathetic what with me having so many crushes na. Anyway, doesn't matter. Something new will always be exciting!

Kat really placed the character of Quannah well. Yup. Quannah, he is a modern guy with a North American Indian descent. And in the book he plays the role of a detective or investigator in a small town with Irish and North America Indian traditions that are still strong. He goes out with a woman named Willi who is a curious middle aged woman, an educator and sometimes end up getting in trouble with curiosity. She has a curious mix of Irish and North American Indian blood.

Now, I've a third major book character crush! His Name is Quannah. Awww. I can only imagine having a guy I can call... Lassiter lovingly one day! hahahaha.

The Matrix Reloaded - 2003

Director: Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski

Writer: Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski

Producer: Warner Bros. Picture, Village Roadshow Pictures, Silver Pictures

Cast: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishbourne, Ray Anthony, Christine Anu,

Tagline:Free Your Mind

Six months after The Matrix, Neo has been proving that he is The One to the humans in Zion(The Resistance). Neo has discovered many of his superpowers. But, they will be facing a larger battle when they found out that 250,000 machine sentinels are digging and heading towards Zion and will reach them in 72 hours.

Not as profound as the first one... but a good continuation nevertheless with a cliffhanger ending... or I did not just watch it a couple of times to really see behind the layers. Matrix seems like a story of birth while Reloaded could refer to re-birth/death and revolutions. It was still good... but I need to watch it a second time to delve into the story.
