Dear John - Nicholas Sparks

Category: Books

Genre: Romance / Drama

Writer: Nicholas Sparks

Savannah Lynn Curtis and John Tyree met one summer at a beach. It was a scenario of the knight in shining armor and the damsel in distress. And ever since Savannah came into his life, he knew he will turn into a new leaf. But, they had to part ways and be in a long distance relationship since John was still enlisted to the Army.

I am sure people in the Army or people who got deeply affected with the September 11 bombings would relate well with this novel. This is a story of a different kind of love. A love that lets people go. This makes you honor the choices of others.

If Only - 2004

Category: Movie

Genre: Drama / Romance

Director: Gil Junger

Writer: Christina Welsh

Tagline: His love for her forced fate to change.

Cast: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Paul Nichols, Tom Wilkinson, Diana Hardcastle, Lucy Davenport, Roy Sampson, Kevin Moore, Neville Phillips, and more.

Overview and Review of the movie If Only.

A British businessman, Ian Wyndham, living in London, learned the hard way to make him say and feel what he truly feels for his musician girlfriend, Samantha. After the graduation of Samantha, she dies in an accident shortly after they had a fight, suddenly, Ian gets a chance to relive the day all over again, in the hope of changing the events that led up to her getting killed.

This is in a sense a sad movie. But, can make you realize a lot of things, specially about the someone that you are in a relationship with. Have you ever told them you loved them? Do you appreciate the one you are with right now?

I like what they did. His efforts to feel love and share it. Vulnerability, is the key. I like that he arranged to make her sing her song on her graduation day. And made her choose where they would run of together and when he bought the charm bracelet for her. So sweet. This movie also involves deja vu...

Quotes I Love:

*under the pouring rain*
Ian: I love you
Samantha: Ooohh I love you too!
Ian: I want to tell you why I love you.
Samantha: It's, it's raining, you know that, right?
Ian: I have to tell you this and you need to hear it. I loved you since I met you. But, I wouldn't allow myself to truly feel it until today. I was always thinking ahead, making decisions out of fear. Today, because of you, what I learned from you, every choice I made was different and my life has completely changed. And I've learned that if you do that, then you are living your life fully. Doesn't matter if you have five minutes or 50 years. Samantha, if not for today, if not for you, I would never have known love at all. So, thank you for being the person who taught me to love. And to be loved.
Samantha: I don't know what to say.
Ian: You don't have to say anything, I just wanted to tell you.
Samantha: Thank You.

Death doesn't put an end to love.

The past doesn't matter. What matters is NOW. Only NOW.

The Fountain - 2006

Genre: Love, Drama, Sci-Fi

Director: Daren Aronofsky

Writers: Daren Aronofsky,

Taglines: What If You Could Live Forever?

Cast: Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz, Ellen Burstyn, Mark Margolis, Stephen McHattie, Fernando Hernandez, Cliff Curtis, Sean Patrick Thomas, Donna Murphy, Ethan Suplee, Richard McMillan, Lorne Bass, Abraham Aronofsky, Renee Asofsky, Anish Majumdar and more

Overview and Review of the movie The Fountain.

This movie got three stories, one from past, present and the future. All about men who are in pursuit of eternity with their love.

The Past: A conqueror in a Mayan country on a bloody hunt for a Mayan temple that has the tree of life to free his captive queen; The Present: a medical researcher, is working with various trees, to look for a cure to save his dying wife; The Future: a space traveler, is traveling with an aged tree encapsulated within a bubble, moves toward a dying star that's wrapped in a nebula; All stories intersect and parallel; while their quests takes them to failure and success. All stories talked about living, loving, and dying.

I got all excited about the Mayan connection to this movie. It has this mystical ring to it, when it involves that. It's a unique film. Not a lot of films delves on this kind of topic. The delivery of the film, the actors did a great job, it has a beautiful cinematography. The story itself is poetic, and a lot are saying it's 'an art'. It touches one's spirit.

Quotes I Like:

Grand Inquisitor Silecio: Our bodies are prisons for our souls. Our skin and blood, the iron bars of confinement. But fear not. All flesh decays. Death turns all to ash. And thus, death frees every soul.

Izzi: Every shadow no matter how deep is threatened by morning light.

Dr. Lillian: Tommy, no one invents new drugs overnight, no one! You're not being rational. You can't fix everything!
Tom: Don't tell me what I can and can't do.
Dr. Lillian: Your wife needs you! Why are you here?
Tom: Why the fuck do you think I'm here?

Tagline: It all begins ... With a choice

Overview and Summary of the movie Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

There has been a series of mysterious killings as a malicious vampire continues her thirst for revenge. Bella whose graduation is fast approaching is once again forced to choose between her love for Eduard and her close friendship with Jacob Black.

This time I liked it. It's longer. Longer fight scenes. Dakota is absolutely fit for being Jane. Bella, Bella is still her confusing self. One minute she's with Edward over the moment kissing Jacob. Although, of course we know who she is in love with. She likes Jacob but as to whom to be with forever, it will always be Edward.

The tent scene cracked me up, though. It was just so gay.

Jacob: Face it, Edward, I'm hotter than you.

*rofl*

Quotes I Like:

When we were five, they asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. Our answers were things like, astronauts, president... or in my case, a princess. When we were ten, they asked again. We answered, a rock star, cowboy, or in my case, a gold medalist. But now that we're grown up, they want a serious answer. Well, how about this. Who the hell knows? This isn't the time to make hard and fast decisions; this is a time to make mistakes. Take the wrong train and get stuck somewhere. Fall in love... a lot. Major in philosophy, because there's no way to make a career out of that. Change your mind, and change it again, because nothing's permanent. So, make as many mistakes as you can. That way, someday, when they ask what we want to be, we won't have to guess... we'll know.

For One More Day - Mitch Albom

Category: Books

Author: Mitch Albom

This book is about a day in the life of a man named Charley "Chick" Benetto, who gets to spend one more day with his deceased mother of eight(8) years, after desperate attempts of trying to kill himself.

This novel goes to show how one visit from a deceased loved one, can alter the course of another person's life. I think this book is really fitting about "mothering" and understanding mothers. It's heartwarming, like a book with a mother's comfort. At least that's how I felt. It shows our mother's story, how we sometimes fail to understand them. And that they too have been through shitty ordeals.

Quotes I Love:

"When you are rotten about yourself, you become rotten to everyone else, even those you love."

"That's the thing when your parents die, you feel like instead of going into every fight with backup, you are going into every fight alone."

Closer - 2004

Category: Movies

Genre: Drama / Romance

Director: Mike Nichols

Producer / Companies: Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures, Buenavista International

Writer: Patrick Marber

Tagline: If you believe in love at first sight, you never stop looking.

Cast: Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Clive Owen, Nick Hobbs, Colin Stinton

Daniel Woolf(Jude Law), a mediocre obituary journalist and a struggling writer in London, England, takes Alice Ayres(Natalie Portman), who ran away from New York and a part-time stripper, to the hospital when she's hit by a car, and they fall in love.

A year later, Dan meets photographer Anna Cameron(Julia Roberts) and tries to pick her up, but nonchalantly rebuffs him. In revenge, Dan sets Anna up for an embarrassing encounter with a dermatologist he met online named Larry Gray(Clive Owen), but the two end up seeing each other. It came to a point where everybody saw each other at some art gallery where Anna placed her exhibits.

Closer's got some wicked twist in it. It's about cheating and betrayals. Julia's some sort of a twisted character. Someone you can't understand or she's what the movie calls a "depresser". Doesn't what to be happy. Well, it's an adult film. Heavy stuff. Not light or heart warming either. It shows the dark side of "love" which is basically "fear". A classic example of how fear can eat the love out of you. :)

Conversations I Like:

Dan: What do you do in New York?
Alice: You know.
Dan: I don't. You Studying?
Alice: Stripping!
Alice: Look at your little eyes...
Dan: I can't see my eyes.

Obituaries is like the Siberia of journalism.

Dan: Do you mind if I smoke?
Anna: If you must.
Dan: I don't have to.
Anna: Then, don't.

Dan: I've got to see you.
Anna: I don't want trouble.
Dan: I'm not trouble.
Anna: You're taken!
Dan: You kissed me.
Anna: What are you? 12?

Anna: I haven't seen you for a year!
Dan: Yes, you have.
Anna: Only because you stalk me outside my studio.
Dan: I didn't stalk. I lurked. and when I'm not there you look for me.
Anna: How do you know if you are not there?
Dan: Because, i'm there lurking from a distance.

Larry: Hello, stranger
Anna: Hello.
Larry: Intense conversation?
Anna: His father died. Were you spying?
Larry: Lovingly observing with a telescope.

You are a woman. She's a girl. She has the moronic beauty of a girl but she's sly.

Larry: Well, ill see to myself then with the ELLE decorated bathroom
Anna: You chose that bathroom
Larry: Everytime I wash in there, i feel dirty. It's cleaner than I am. It's got attitude. It's like saying: "Who the fuck are you?"
Anna: You chose it.
Larry: Doesn't mean I like it.

Alice: Why are you sorry? Why didn't you tell me before? Is it because she's successful?
Dan: No, it's because she doesn't need me. Deception is brutal. I'm not pretending otherwise.
Alice: How? HOw does it work? How do you do this to someone?
Dan: *shrugs*
Alice: Not good enough.

Dan: I fell in love with her Alice.
Alice: Oh, it's as if you have no choice. There's a moment. There's always a moment. I can do this, i can give in to this or I can resist it. And i dont know what your moment is, but i bet you there was one. I'm going. *opens the door*
Dan: It's not safe out there.
Alice: Why? Is it safe in here?
Dan: What about your things?
Alice: I dont need things.
Dan: Where will you go?
Alice: Disappear.

Alice: Why is it that love isn't enough?

Dan: You love her like a dog loves its owner.
Larry: And the owner loves the dog for so doing.
Dan: You'll hurt her. You'll never forgive her
Larry: Of course I'll forgive her. I *have* forgiven her. Without forgiveness we're savages. You're drowning.

Larry: I didn't do it to have a nice time. I fucked her to fuck you up.
Dan: You're an animal.
Larry: Yeah? What are you?
Dan: You think love is simple. Well, you think the heart is like a diagram.
Larry: Have you ever seen a human heart? It's like a fist wrapped in blood. Go, fuck yourself. You don't know the first thing about love. Cause you don't understand the word compromise. Go back to Alice. She loves you beyond description. Your prescription is where she works. Go to her.

Alice: I don't love you anymore
Dan: Since when?
Alice: Now. Just now. I don't wanna lie. I can't tell the truth. So, it's over.
Dan: It doesn't matter. I love you. None of it matters.
Alice: Too late. I don't love you anymore, goodbye. Here's the truth. So, now you can hate me. Larry fucked me all night. I enjoyed it. I came. I prefer you. Now, go.
Dan: I knew that. He told me.
Alice: You knew?
Dan: I need to hear it from you.
Alice: Why?
Dan: Because he might've been lying. I had to hear it from you.
Alice: I would've never told you cause I know you'd never forgive me.
Dan: I would. I Have.
Alice: Why did he tell you?
Dan: Because he is a bastard.
Alice: How could he?
Dan: Cause he wanted this to happen.
Alice: But, why test me?
Dan: Cause i'm an idiot!
Alice: Yes. I would've loved you forever. Now, please go.
Dan: Don't do this Alice. Talk to me.
Alice: I am talking. Fuck off.
Dan: You know I'm sorry. You misunderstand. I didn't mean to.
Alice: Yes you did.
Dan: I love you?
Alice: Where?
Dan: What?
Alice: Show me! Where is this love? I can't see it, i can't touch it. I can't feel it. I can't hear it. I can hear some words but I can't do anything with your easy words! Whatever you say, it's too late.
Dan: Please don't do this!
Alice: It's done. Now, please go. Or i'll call security.
Dan: You're not in a strip club. there is no security.
*Alice tries to get the phone*
