24's Jack Bauer

It seems like, i just cant get enough of 24! I like most of the characters in the story, they all play an important role, yeah even those antagonists.

And today i am going to tell you all about Jack.

There are countless of reasons why everyone likes Jack's character. He is a "pro", and a "just" man. He knows what is right, and would sacrifice his life for what he believes in. He is also true to his word, and would live by it even if it meant losing his life/love/family. A true blue blooded patriot, who only wants what is good for everybody specially the country. He serves the people, and knows authority.

What i like about him aside from what i mentioned above, is when it comes to interrogating people. He shows no fear, and shows authority to whoever he is interrogating. He plays out the worst case scenario, making the "suspect" speak and tell Jack what he wanted to know.

His usual line would be:

"If you don't tell me what I want to know, then it'll just be a question of how much you want it to hurt."

or

"You are going to tell me everything I want to know or I swear to God I will hurt you before I kill you, and no one will be able to stop me. "

or he either shoots the person at the kneecap (from season 4 with Sherek) or he would threaten the person with a line that would go something like this:

"You've read my file. The first thing i will do is, scrape your left eye then your right eye...." while holding the knife, like he was just about to do it. (season 5).

And if that person... somewhat killed any of his friends or loved ones..

His usual line would be:

"You don't have any more useful information, do you?"

Then he fires away. and it could also be because...

Chase: "If he realizes that you're toying with him, he will kill you."

Jack is also frank...

"That's the problem with people like you, George. You want results, but you never want to get your hands dirty. I'd start rolling up your sleeves."

He says what is on his mind. And i like his puns.

and when he says what he feels... it makes you want to cry.. Boohoo

"The Sunday before you killed my wife... Teri and I went to the boardwalk in Venice just watching all the rollerbladers and musicians, laughing at the crazy people, spending time together. And Teri sees this sno-cone stand. She giggles like a kid. She takes off running, she wants to get in line, she wants one. I remember I was watching her, I was just... I couldn't help myself. When I look up at her she's talking to this old lady in line behind her and the two of them are laughing, and I'm thinking to myself, how the hell does she do that. How does she strike up a conversation with an absolute stranger? And they just start laughing. Like they'd been friends forever. That's a GIFT. I remember thinking, God, I wish I could do that. But I can't. That was Teri. My wife. That's what you took from this world, Nina. That's what you took from me, and my daughter. I just wanted you to know that. "

He loves his daughter... the only one he has left..after his wife died

"Honey I want you to live your life. I want you to be happy. That's all I've ever wanted. I want you to try and grow up to be the kind of person that would've made your mom proud. "

"Honey, I've got to start focusing on what I'm doing up here, I'm running out of time, okay? So uh... I-I'm gonna have to say good-bye. I love you more than anything in the world and I'll always be with you, okay? Remember that. "

in fear:

" I used to be in the military. Used to do field work for the CIA. I've been to some horrible places. I've seen some pretty terrible things. I don't think I've ever been this scared in my whole life."

And of course Jack is not at all "fearless". People needs "fear". A little fear gets the adrenaline going and gives you a fighting edge and that is fine. But too much fear, on the other hand paralyzes you like a rabbit caught in a car's headlight and that gets you killed. To be afraid in a battle is ok, what matters most is you go out and do the job anyway. (Btw, being fearless and stupidity go along together.)

(NOTE: The fear that i am talking about is being afraid of people/trials/problems/situations and of course we NEED TO FEAR GOD still... just a reminder...and that is a different story.)

in his views about government:

"The government has no integrity!"

and his words are applicable in real life.. we may not be living in a gunpoint like Jack is.. but the way he sees everything.. can be applicable.. to REAL LIFE.

"There are things in this world which are out of our control. Sometimes we like to blame ourselves for them so we can try to make sense out of them."

and sometimes just like everyone would react... he feels the trials in life.. like he would want to give it up...

"A few years ago, my wife was killed because of my job. My daughter has never been the same since. This last year... well, you know what I went through to bring you in. What'd I get for it? A pat on the back. In the end, a demotion and a heroin habit. I'm tired of putting my ass on the line for nothing. I'm DONE putting my ass on the line for nothing. "

But we all know... that he still keeps his life on the line. Sometimes we get too tired of all the trials.. and would say like what jack said.. but in the end.. what matters most, is how you WORK it up. And made a solution out of your problem.

Jack.. shows everyone STRENGTH and that sometimes, we all do feel the weariness... but of course we must not dwell in the weariness itself, but in how we come up with solutions that would make our LIFE worth living.
